The current Duke has strong aviation aviation connections - I believe that whilst in RAF service one of the recently departed Cranwell Dominies carried his coat of arms! :ninja:

When I lived over that way for a while (Redmile, around 1989/90/91) there were a few serving pilots living in our village, including a Canberra and two Tonka jockeys, all living in houses owned by "The Duke", I never did ask whether there was some sort of 'favour for the boys' going on .

It wasn't till said Canberra Jock just happened to mention it in passing that I found out !! It was this wierd realisation on hearing it, that I was automatically pulling myself into 'Attention' and he was beckoning me to calm down , that I first realise how some of that past training is indoctorinated into the system.!!

The Duke is a regular at Newark Air Museum - the aircraft in Knipton reservoir is Lancaster R5726 that broke up in mid-air on April 4th 1944; the wing tip is on display in the Lancaster Corner at Newark having been recovered by a sub-aqua group in the 1970s!
