Re: Eastbourne 22
From anyone's past experience, do the aircraft fly along the coastline on approach/departure to Eastbourne? Wondering if it's worth viewing from out of town. The website suggests Beachy Head as an option, but don't want to end up missing all the action!

Re: Eastbourne 22
It is very hit and miss away from the town, probably even more so this year considering the basing arrangements for many of the aircraft. If you really want to see the displays you need to head into town.
Beachy Head is considered as a secondary crowd location so aircraft will be following normal rules of the air as they transit to and from Shoreham. Shoreham will probably only see some of the light aircraft and smaller warbirds this year.

Thanks Flightline, appreciate the info and explanation.
Re: Eastbourne 22
Bit late getting to this but as a local here goes.
Obviously there has not been a show for three years now but I don't suppose too much has changed.
Previously the Typhoon and F-16 have been flown from Biggin Hill so they normally arr/dep from/to the east along the coast. The Reds have previously arrived from crowd rear. As indicated above, Shoreham normally has the smaller assets and maybe the Chinook, so these have previously arr/dep around Beachy Head.
Viewing. I don't normally go to the seafront but the display centre is the Western Lawns just south west of the pier but it gets crowded, though there is plenty of room to view and various ground attractions. Parking will be an issue, although again, I have not tried to do this. Just south west of the Western Lawns is South Cliff Road, which runs parallel to the seafront and is elevated, so a good view can be had here without the crowds.
Beachy Head is 500 to 600 feet above sea level with unobstructed views of the town and display area. The displays will be distant but you should get close passes from anything coming from Shoreham, with the Reds and BBMF maybe straying out that far. Often the aircraft are below you. Head to the Beachy Head pub for parking (you will have to pay, previously £5 to £8 but probably more post Covid and ripping people off seems to be the norm these days). Once parked, cross over the road and turn right on to the path towards the Bomber Command Memorial. There is plenty of room to sit down on the slopes just below the memorial. Check out the many Beachy Head/airborne videos on You Tube as most of them are shot from here and are a better guide than anything I have written.

Does anyone know if the F-16s and Typhoons will definitely be at biggin hill?
Re: Eastbourne 22

Re: Eastbourne 22
Biggin Hill isn't really an option anymore due to the lack of spare apron space and recent development of the airfield.
Main operating bases for Eastbourne will be Lydd, Southend and Shoreham. The classic jets will base at North Weald.

Re: Eastbourne 22
Update: Sad news, we had a fix for our airborne: Eastbourne International Airshow initial participation cancellation, but it has proven to be too late. Time was not on our side. 1 working day was a bit too short. So sorry, we were really looking forward to display by the Eastbourne Coast Side...
Display update. Sadly the F16 will not be displaying this year due to logistical reasons. This is despite resolving some earlier insurance issues. We would like to extend our thanks to the Belgian Air Force F-16 Solo Display team for pulling out all the stops and trying to bring the display to Eastbourne. Hopefully we will see you on the south coast at a future event
We still have lots of amazing displays across the four days to look forward to including the Red Arrows, Typhoon, Chinook, Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, Norwegian MiG-15, Strikemaster, P47 Thunderbolt and much more
Re: Eastbourne 22
Anyone know the ATC frequency used for Eastbourne?
Shame about the Belgian F16, was going to be one of the highlights, but these things happen

Re: Eastbourne 22
From 2015 to 2018 it was 132.9. In 2019 it was 130.675.
These are what is known as "common display frequencies", I have a list, which is very old now, which has six of these listed, so in theory it could be one of several.
I have been able to hear the comms from my house before, so if I'm not too busy, which I may be tomorrow, I will post on here if I find out.

Thanks Apex, appreciate it.
I’ll keep an ear out later over the common display frequencies, see if I can find out which one is in use this year.

Frequency in use was 130.675.
The Red's support Juno was ZM 531 for anyone that saw it from/to Odiham I think.
