Great Yarmouth Air Show.

Just heard about this on the news locally.
http://www.great-yarmouth.co.uk/air-show/
Here's hoping that they put some thought into it.
Lowestoft (nearby) was quite good but sadly they couldn't make it pay.
Good luck to them.
Just for your info.
Gt Yarmouth has a Maritime Festival, this is always well advertised and reported on, but in all honesty it's a bit poor.
There's often more boats in on a 'normal' week than on the Festival weekend, on previous years there's been tall ships arrive a week after the Festival finished.
Co-ordination at it's finest.

I like their idea of evening displays on Thursday and Friday, and the afternoon displays on Saturday and Sunday.

It's just been on the news that there's a council meeting this morning to decide the fate of the new air show.
They are saying that costs for crowd control and security have risen significantly in light of recent events in France and Germany.
I hope this isn't a new 'trend' for 2017, many smaller events make little profit anyway so rising costs may end them.
I'll update if anything else is announced.
***Update***
12.38 pm Radio Norfolk
Yep, air show been cancelled.
Shame.

Hi Peeps
Just to let anyone interested know that the Gt. Yarmouth Seafront 4 day Air Festival has been
CANCELLED for this year
Security cost increases are cited as the main cause
They are still planning for next year, but who knows
Cheers

Update on the official website.
http://www.great-yarmouth.co.uk/air-sho ... irect=true
To whoever combined the two threads.
Thank you.
I have no idea why I didn't think to put Gt Yarmouth in the original 'subject' line.
I even edited it earlier.
I'll get the hang of this internetting stuff one of these days :-)

I just heard on Radio Norfolk that the first Great Yarmouth Air Show has posted a loss of £584,000.
Organisers (Councillors ?) have just had a meeting and announced it.
That’s a huge amount of money, I don’t know how this affects future shows but it doesn’t bode well.
I thought they’d committed for 2 or 3 years but I should imagine that this has hit their finances quite hard.
It’s a bit of a shame because all said and done it wasn’t too bad a show, we saw both days one from Gorleston and one from Great Yarmouth sea front both were pretty good for a first attempt.
I’ll edit this to update it when Local News Websites post about the meeting.

Seems the CAA have said
NO more airshows in June 'cos of the Terns, amongst other gripes
Local official said that the show will return, but maybe 2 or 3 smaller shows dotted about the summer
Anything would be better than nothing

Been on local radio news.

No Airshow for 2019.
Hardly surprising with the huge loss they made.

Can't understand how Clacton can do it financially but Lowestoft and Gt Yarmouth can't. However, the worst thing is that neither of them talked to the Clacton team to get best practice. Do different does not always work.
