Anyone have the impression that they are struggling to fill the slots this year? No Vulcan. No Blades. Reds only on Sunday. According to Twitter the flying display starts at 12:30pm. Is this later than previous years?

I think the B52 will about the only highlight for most people.

Has anyone had or seen a flight plan for Newcastle based aircraft over the weekend?

My impression of display/photo highlights are RNlAF Orange, Typhoon & Harrier always good, B-52 maybe big and slow (might even mean that my panning shots will be sharp!!) but of limited attraction (pure RIAT/Farnborough Raptor envy me thinks on my part), and my moan will be that the tide is high during the main part of the display afternoon, so no scrambling over the rocks to get closer to the flightline!
Anyhow, let's hope the weather stays fair, and that Sunderland plus Newcastle Airport put on a good show between now and Monday afternoon.

B52 only performed a low flypast before turning east RTB.
I was at the airport. Controller requested a flyby of the airport but ICER denied it. Dissapointing for the people who turned up to NCL.
THYPHOON43 put on a awesome take off and arrival at NCL. Low pass on rwy25 before looping for a landing on 07 (in less than 30secs).

The only official spot is by Samson Aviation (follow the signs for emergency south - there are two routes in). The airport have made a temporary parking and standing area which is very close to the 07 threshold. Probably a hundred or so people there today. From this enclosure you can get a good look at the parking area near taxiway foxtrot. Today we had a 1st class view of the Tyhpoon returning on the rwy25 low run and switching to 07 for landing.

Newcastle airport should be commended in my opinion for setting something up for the weekend.

A few people were watching on the main road near 25 threshold, but you only see the landing. Difficult to see the takeoffs because of a high perimeter wall.

Changing my mind. Ain't going to Sunderland tomorrow. Back to the airport for me.

enjoy....

Just got in from the Mackum's (Sunday) airshow, not a bad day out but the same old problem the aircraft performing 1-2 miles out to sea. Even a 500mm lens was a struggle today. They just disappeared in to the haze, although the best view must of been from the decks of HMS Westminster lying off a mile out.
It was a much better airshow in years gone by before all this "risk assessment" attitude. The B52 was that far out it could of been a glider for all the noise that could be heard from it, one slow pass from the south, then half way up the crowd line it was ordered to right turn out to sea and that was that. I'm sticking with the likes of Elvington in the future, at least you can see the ruddy things.
