RAF Leuchars Battle of Britain at Home Day 2012
Re: RAF Leuchars Battle of Britain at Home Day 2012
With regards the based Typhoons I'm pretty sure there will be plenty scattered around in the static park. Regarding the 1 Sqdn stand up thing, I reckon they might have a 3 ship flypast with 2 6 Sqn Typhoons flanking a 1 Sqdn marked Typhoon. But who knows will have to wait and see on the day.
Re: RAF Leuchars Battle of Britain at Home Day 2012
The early weather forecast for show looks a bit dodgy and could become really messy over that weekend.
Thursday is rain with wind gusting to 19mph
Friday Dull with wind gusting to 24mph
Saturday is Rain with 35% chance of thunderstorms.
Fingers crossed that we can get 3 half decent days of weather but the way the weather has been over the last 8 weeks that does not look very likely.

Re: RAF Leuchars Battle of Britain at Home Day 2012
Starting to get worried about this weather front that is forecast (extended) for Leuchars.
Thursday is rain wind 24km/h gusting to 50km/k Will not affect the heavies that are due in that day.
Friday is wet wind 21km/h gusting to 53km/h
This is worrying as alot of the show stuff is unable to fly in strong winds could we see half the line up took out by strong winds.
Saturday is still showing a thunderstorm risk and that in itself could be a huge blow and sign of a storm will have airshow staff in a panic.Last thing they want is a thunderstorm over head with 50,000 plus on base with all that electricity there as that would just be a huge beacon for any lightning.
Fingers crossed though alot can change in 15 days lets hope for the better.

Considering the variance in the weather forecasts from day to day I think its best to leave it until at least the Wednesday before we start to worry.
According to the Met office
"Further rain is likely at times in the north as we head into early September, otherwise a good deal of fine and dry weather is expected with some decent sunny spells developing. Heading towards the end of the period though a trend to more unsettled conditions across the UK is possible"

Another thing to remember with Leuchars,
Snow at 27 end. Sunshine at the 09 end. Wind, rain etc inbetween.

If it cant be fixed with a hammer, then its an electrical problem.

There's a lot of truth in that, all Scottish airfields have similar weather.lazybinman wrote:Another thing to remember with Leuchars,

Have to say hats off to those running the show to lose the PDeF would have hurt but to come in and replace that with a B-52 and a E3-D to the flying display is outstanding work.

Re: RAF Leuchars Battle of Britain at Home Day 2012
Fantastic additions, well done to the airshow team. Now all we need is a proper home team demo, unlike the underwhelming 4 ship last year. Am I the only one thinking the addition of the E-3 flying is a hint that we might have a proper role demo! It still sticks in the stomach that Leuchars were about the only show( albeit due to the poor weather and absence of the show the other year) that didn't get to see the full RAF demo, and it was the home based f3s that were the main stars!

Have to agree balomorybuzzed last year as you say was a bit underwhelming, but i think there will be something
from the home team QRA demo maybe possibly a role demo with the E-3 now displaying, there will be some flypasts
i am sure of that especially 1sqn standing up as well heres hoping though

I see that the French Aeronavale are sending a couple of Rafale from the 11th squadron to do a flypast at the Jersey airshow on the Thursday wonder if there is any chance that they might then make the trip up north.
