Had a nice day at Lowestoft with the family today.

The aircraft displays were great, especially the Hunter, Blades & the Reds. It was a real shame about the missing aircraft and I know it was out of the organisers hands but it made it one of the slowest and gappiest shows I have ever seen at Lowestoft. Also, there did appear to be less people attending than in previous years which was very surprising, especially on the beach which is usually crammed down to the water's edge, maybe something to do with the weather?

I put my money in the bucket, & for the displays I saw today it was worth every penny!

Thanks for a lovely day Lowestoft & good luck for tomorrow :thumb:

Thanks tankbuster glad you enjoyed it sorry about the gaps. Must admit of all the years i have been involved today was a nightmare with regards to flight times and gaps. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. And with regards to the beach when we held it in july it was crammed with sun worshipers this year i think with it being late summer people did not turn up on the beach as much, as you say due to the weather. The main thing though the seafront was busy and that is the best we could hope for.

We certainly made the most of it & enjoyed the day, it was well worth the trip. No need to apologise for the gaps, thats airshows for you!

Judging by the state of my car seats, the kids have bought back half of Lowestoft beach with them :@ .

Good show today with the weather steadily improving as the afternoon went on. It was nice to see the MC130 with some low approaches and turns, the F15E made plenty of noise, but the highlight had to be the role demo GR4s. I heard the crowd figure over the tanoy as 225,000, seem rather a lot but good if true.

Heres hoping to next year!

Thanks phoon glad you enjoyed it the program went much better today and the weather cleared for the GR-4s which was nice. The crowd is just an estimate although judging by the traffic jams after the show there probably was that amount here is hoping for next year which might be in June at a weekend.

Yes its a shame really how people dont pay 3 quid. We had a F-15, MC-130 from mildenhall doing nice low passes which was a bonus hopefully once all the counting is done it will be ok for next year. 1 man we were told put 150 pounds in the bucket. The guy with the bucket could not believe it. All in all a great day was had by everyone hope all those who came enjoyed themselves.

It would be a real shame if the funding decreases for this airshow, as it is a really good day out. On Thursday we put £20 in the bucket for the family, but sadly we did witness some people heading for the beach but avoiding the buckets :( . I wonder if these people realise that without their few quid there wont be an airshow next year

I even heard one couple say " we've paid to Park & Ride, so surely thats enough for you" :@ .

Just out of interest is there an online donation facility so we can top up the funds in the coming months towards 2012?

I noticed lots of people dodging the bucket collectors, they will probably be the first to moan next year when there isnt a show. 3 quid is very good value for money, howver I do think that the entrance fee should be forced rather than voluntary, something needs to be introduced to seal of an area (I think Southport does this).

At £3 you would still get loads of visitors.

Getting something for nothing is regarded as a perks these days, and, if you can get away with it, then, from their point of view, fine. Times are hard for a lot of people, particularly with a young family, so I do sympathise with them to some extent.
Nothing is more welcome than an opportunity to take the kids out for a day that wont cost anything, that £3 is better spent on ice creams for the kids when at the seaside, I know as I too have a young family & yes times are hard!
It just seems that lots of people avoided the buckets probably without even realising that even a bit of loose change or a few coppers of any amount would have been greatly appreciated by the organisers.

Hi tankbuster there is a online donation facility on the lowestoft air festival website. Just click onto online shop and you will see the donation section there hope that helps. Thanks for everyone who came and who donated despite many skipping the buckets i think early signs are the donations were fairly good. Cheers vinnyboy.

Just an update. The total raised from bucket collections was £116.000 which is quite good but when you work it out for the amount that attended the show its just 11% that donated the £3. Still we are working on getting a show next year and it will be or should be at the moment a weekend in june. Once again thanks for everyone who came and enjoyed the day or days here.
