Southport Airshow 2014

Vulcan now slotted in for 16.10 Sunday after not being able to get out of Doncaster due to weather today.
Incidently The Jet Provost display seemed to be curtailed after appearing to get rather low on a turn towards crowd. Just my opinion but didn't look like a normal manouvre. Was a good job to all crews concerned to display today as weather wasn't too good at times.

Mission accomplished. Thanks everyone. Excellent views of the Lancasters landing at Blackpool from the dunes. Certainly compensated for my dad not being able to attend East Kirkby.

Glad you were able to get your dad over to see them. I imagine the view of Vera (in particular) was good from the dunes as she waited for Thumper to clear the runway.

I also noticed this Bob, it was a bit of hold breath move and looked as though the pilot miss judged the pull out as he was only 50ft approx off the deck and as you said, direct towards the crowd at the pier end of the beach, certainly didn't look like a planned move.

Great show at Southport today. The JP managed to stay out of trouble and the two Lancs were superb as always. Never been before but I think I'll ad this to my calendar for the future.

Show on Sunday was great apart from traffic, took 2 hours to travel 3miles, but never mind it was worth it.

Let the train take the strain..... I did (He said looking smug) and was having dinner in a restaurant 50 miles away before my mate had even got out of Southport!!

I'm glad someone else noticed that! I think the JP pilot misjudged the roll and after pulling out of it climbed away to have a word with himself!

Must admit though, got a good spot when we eventually got on site, also managed to do a bit of birding whilst sat in traffic, so it wasn't wasted.

I took the train also but it was a tad wedged on departure. Strengthening the formations would have helped but that would have involved logical thought by Northern and I donut think they are capable of that. My first visit to the show and was most enjoyable nevertheless.

Damndest thing is, I felt rather miffed and let down to hear that the tin triangle had cancelled as it couldn't get air born from Doncaster. (Although I was already committed to attending before it was announced she was coming)

Now call me cynical if you want, but my mate was at Doncaster Market at the time wearing shorts and T shirt!!, another mate flew out of Finningly to Cyprus at 16 .10 hrs with no problems what so ever, saying it was a cloud base of around 5,000 feet there when he left and two WW2 air frames were able to get to Southport from less than 40 miles away from Finningly....................

Also the Great war Display team 'cancelled at the last minute' yet according to their own web page they weren't ever down to display there!!

I hate to say it , but I feel that Southport asked the Vulcan to the Sky Trust to knock it back a day so that they would sell more tickets on Sunday (Seeing as how they had already had more there on Saturday than had been there over the two days the year before!!)

I also took the train to Southport but on the Friday, due to line works between Hunts Cross & South Parkway the train I was on was absolutely packed, ended up getting off at Sandhills & catching the next one which was empty...

On the Sunday though I thought getting the 5:15 train was going to be hectic with the amount that was there, but managed to grab a space for the pushbike without any hassle. Its definitely worth spending a small amount of time walking around the displays/stalls before heading to the train though!
