Hi,roys wrote:I am considering attending this show but have not been before. Whats the traffic like - getting in and out ?
What is the airshow signed route off the M65?
Regards Roy
From the M65 you would from what I can gather you would just follow the sign's for Southport and when you get into Southport it would be signposted etc.
The traffic can honestly be a bit chaotic both getting in and out of there.

Re: Southport Airshow 2012
Its been a long time since I actually traveled there by car, I know a few people have said it can take a various amount of times to actually get out of southport etc, Some up to 2 hours plus etc...roys wrote:Went to the Woodvale rally a long time ago and the roads were somewhat overloaded !
So if it is as bad as trying to get to the A64 as the old Elvington show was I might give it a miss, as I do not have a sitting down job and am old & knackered!
If anyone could advise as to what length of time they have queued for it will give me an idea !
The official viewing area is the beach, according to the app the tickets for £7 are on sale via the website etc till tomorrow night, then they revert back to £9, plus if your taking a car onto the beach I think its £5 per car as well..Planesite wrote:Hi I have not been to this show before. I live in West Yorkshire so not too far for me to go to. Is it worth going to? What is it like for access for photography? What is the official viewing area like? Versus the unofficial best spots? I will be taking my family wife and under two? Is it going to be too crowded for a toddler? Does the show actually happen over the water as this makes for better under aircraft lighting? Is the distance to great to get a good shot with a Nikon 200-400mm F4? Thanks for any guidance? Cheers Steve
It can get pretty crowded in all honesty but I know that there's a lot of family's that go there and is never a problem...
With a 200-400mm lens you could sit anywhere on the beach to snap away from! For example I use a 70-300mm lens and never have any trouble snapping the various display's as the display line is closer than usual etc.
Hope this helps.
Re: Southport Airshow 2012
I'm off there tomorrow and I think I may burst with excitement. I had to share this as people in the office think I'm so boring talking about Military Aircraft.

Re: Southport Airshow 2012
Will be updating the list as soon as I possibly can, there's a lot of display times missing at the moment from the newer version of it I have!
Re: Southport Airshow 2012
2 and a 1/2 hour journey from Bury in the morning, after setting off at 8.30. The return leg took nearly 2 hours and that's after waiting around on the beach until 7.30!!! The roads in and around Southport just can't cope with that much traffic, especially the coast road. Not sure if I can face doing this again next year.Great to see the Vulcan, Gr4s and Typhoon though.
Re: Southport Airshow 2012
72-21509 is the UH-1 - if you find a photo of it the whole reg is actually on the tail but only the "509" is easily visible as its yellow, the rest is black on green so difficult to spot.
The loach is 69-16011 which again, only the "011" is in yellow and easily visible..
can't help with the Reds im afraid, they came from Blackpool so if you can find a log of some sort from there that could be a good bet.
