Midlands air festival 2023
Re: Midlands air festival 2023
Hi, is it too early to ask if anybody has lists of scheduled display time slots for each day.Cost of living means I will be in a field nearby
. Thanks if you can help.
Re: Midlands air festival 2023
An email was sent out to ticket holders on 28.5.23 with display timings on - although as they're an image, I'm not sure there's a way to link them here directly
Re: Midlands air festival 2023
This is my first year going to the Midlands airshow, I am there on Sunday, any tips from those that have been before? Mainly around photography, thanks.
Re: Midlands air festival 2023
in my opinion, Its not great for photography. its a beautiful setting but the sun is in front of you most of the day. my best photos seem to be take off and landing shots as well as ground shots..viewing is great because the ground slopes towards the flight line slightly so you tend not to get to many people obstructing your view.
on a slightly different topic...take cash...Wi-Fi is dreadful so most vendors card machines seldom work.
i do like midlands air fest. it gets better and better every year.
enjoy

Re: Midlands air festival 2023
Does anyone know what the ATC arrangements are for the Air Festival? Is there an Air/Ground frequency on site, or is the show administered from a nearby airfield...?
Just wondering if it's worth taking a scanner, and what freqs to enter. Thanks!

The Swedes are going via Teesside (not Norwich) - ETA 0930 and 1000z, ETD 1410 and 1425z. Assume they will fly to the Midlands in-between.
Re: Midlands air festival 2023
SE-DXR arrived at Teesside this morning
Still searching for the master shot.
Re: Midlands air festival 2023
Anyone for the serials of the 4 Gazelles this afternoon at Midlands?
Re: Midlands air festival 2023
The Drakens display was dismal, 3 passes, no topside pass, 1 burner pass absolutely shocking, i think the only person that was left happy was the commentator. I cannot believe it flew from sweden to do 3 passes.

Re: Midlands air festival 2023
According to a post elsewhere, it was unable to due its full planned display due to low fuel.
It had taken off with the intention of doing its full approved routine, but was held by ATC as they would not clear him to route to Ragley. By the time they approved the Draken it didn't have enough fuel to display and then fly back to base. So all they could do was the 3 passes.

Re: Midlands air festival 2023
That’s a pretty poor shout by ATC then. I wonder if that explains the route it took to Ragley, which incidentally took it within sight of my house. But I wasn’t there. I was near Ragley

Re: Midlands air festival 2023
All the way from Sweden to be let down by ATC, if true that’s disgusting
Re: Midlands air festival 2023
Hi. Without knowing the facts I wouldn't blame ATC . There may have been good reasons for not clearing the display at the time.As having worked in the RAF in ATC hope you don't mind me commentating. ATC is always about flight safety.

Re: Midlands air festival 2023
We heard the pilot call fuel over the radio on 3rd pass, commentary later said it was an ATC issue or words to that effect. Either way it was still great to see it
Re: Midlands air festival 2023
it was indeed ATC that held the Draken back ( according to airshow commentary). 3 passes or not, it was a very rare sight in this country..i for one was thrilled. i have had word ( cant conform) that the Draken was refueling at Teesside airport so understandable the display had to be short given the hold up.
