Re: Flying Legends 2023 - 15-16 July - Chuch Fenton/Leeds East
I see tickets are on sale! Re Sally B think there may be an issue with spars/maintenance/servicing?
Re: Flying Legends 2023 - 15-16 July - Chuch Fenton/Leeds East
Flying Legends held a press day at Church Fenton on the 12th featuring the Grace family Spitfire and TF51-D 'Contrary Mary', both of which flew journalists and photographers throughout the day. The airfield is looking great with the new grass strip in situ, further modifications specifically for FL currently in hand. Oddly enough, a couple if days later, we also had a Hurricane (and BF108/Nord) visit too - the Hurri will also appear at Legends.

I'm looking to attend this but the only issue is getting there by train. What is it like getting into the show from Church Fenton railway station? Any help is greatly appreciated thanks as I can't find anything online about airshow days

Assuming the rail unions haven't called a strike that weekend.jasonT1981 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 16, 2023 6:55 pmThere will be a shuttle bus from Church Fenton railway station

That's great Jason, thank you

To be honest it's walkable (assuming you're fit and able), about half a mile to the airfield then depending on which entrance they're using perhaps another quarter of a mile.

Sounds to me like Brian has merely stated something that needs to be taken into account for any would-be rail traveller

Everyone who regularly travels by rail will be fully aware of that I'm sure.

To be fair, you do have a point. Train strikes are a threat these days. I had to make alternative plans for Duxfords End of Season show last year. And had a back=up plan for RIAT/Legends weekend if the worst happened.Pen Pusher wrote: ↑Fri Jun 16, 2023 7:00 pmAssuming the rail unions haven't called a strike that weekend.jasonT1981 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 16, 2023 6:55 pmThere will be a shuttle bus from Church Fenton railway station

Thankfully the July strikes have been announced and they are the following weeks after Legends/RIAT on the 20th/22nd & 29th of July.
Re: Flying Legends 2023 - 15-16 July - Chuch Fenton/Leeds East
Really enjoyed Flying Legends. Went for both show days and spent many hours on site the preceding week also. The rain was a nuisance on the Saturday but we still enjoyed a reduced programme of flying. Sunday faired much better with everything except the Wildcat, Gladiator and Horesmen taking to the skies (although the Horsemen flew later that day - presumably for WingsTV who will be producing the official 'video').
The event was given a rough ride by aviation enthusiasts on the run-up to the event, which is a shame, but despite all the negativity they really put on a creditable event, creating a solid foundation for the resumption of this amazing show.
According to the souvenir brochure the Tempest was due to debut at the show, alas that was not to be, however co-commentator Richard Grace informed us that it is complete and sat in the hangar waiting to fly, putting the delay down to an over cautious CAA. He also informed us that work is well in hand on their BF109 - mouthwatering prospects for the future.
Many highlights, personally I loved the Electra, Spitfires, BoB set piece and the balbo - pure Legends. The various display axis worked a treat and the taxiway running the length of the public enclosure meant everyone got close to the aircraft.
Some site layout tweaks perhaps, if it comes back to Church Fenton next year, no massive issues though. The rail/bus link seemed to work well and traffic flow was smooth.
