Great day out at Cosford. Sun and planes, what’s not to like?

Re: RAF Cosford Airshow 2018, Sunday 10th June
Hi All.
Just returned from my first Cosford show and only the second visit there at all(last in 1988!)
Just a well done to all those volunteers who helped make it a great event.
Arrived into carpark 7(off the A41) with only a 10 min queue at 0830 and was in the show by 0845, marvellous.
While the light was tricky for photos my personal targets were all those wonderful Jaguars that I'd missed in Colt over the years.
Some great gapfillers along with a few modern bits and bobs.
Foodwise as usual expensive but guess that's to be expected, if concerned then bring your own!
Departed at 1500 again no problems with traffic and on the motorway in 10 mins.
Mike

One of the best shows at Cosford in years.Did one of the Reds mess the heart up or was it something else they were trying to create ?
Re: RAF Cosford Airshow 2018, Sunday 10th June
Good Cosford show only marred by the closure of the A41 due to a serious accident causing traffic congestion at the end. Stayed behind in the sunshine. Top marks for me to the spirited Rafale display.
Re: RAF Cosford Airshow 2018, Sunday 10th June
Aside from the evening traffic problems, it really was a cracking day out.
Rafale display was bloo*y immense.

That escalated quickly! - 1 hour 10 minute queue at 0840. Apparently they opened the gates at 0730? All totally worth it though, fantastic day out, so much to see on the ground let alone the great flying display!

The speared heart was done exactly as intended, and looked pretty well perfect to me. Were you a long way from crowd-centre...?

Great day out - only thing I found slightly terrible was the traffic situation on the M54 - not sure what was going on but from the tail of the queue on the slip road to the car park (4 miles) took 2 and a half hours! The same as the journey time from Newmarket to Cosford!!! I thought leaving at 6.30am was enough to be at the gates opening or thereabouts, but in the end arrived just as the Falcons were parachuting in. I can't blame anyone for missing the tail of the jam and forcing their way in further up because it was not easily apparent that the hard shoulder was the queue until it was too late.Hendon Chipmunk wrote: ↑Sun Jun 10, 2018 9:21 pmThat escalated quickly! - 1 hour 10 minute queue at 0840. Particularly enjoyed the museum and engineering aircraft pulled out for display in the sunlight, and the Mig 29 display - not surprising the Fulcrum was part of the Smokey pair! Also thought the engineering demos in the hangars were great particularly the undercarriage cycling of the Jaguar by kids in the cockpit - great way to get kids interested in engineering.

It was probably the 100 in smoke by 3 of them, one doing the 1, and 2 doing 0's, the heart was perfectSeahornet1 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 11, 2018 9:45 amThe speared heart was done exactly as intended, and looked pretty well perfect to me. Were you a long way from crowd-centre...?

Had a really great day yesterday! Never done a Cosford show before but this one was well worth the trek.
Pros:
Great Static Display - very well thought out
Varied flying displays - some real rare treats enjoyed seeing a lot more RAF flying than usual, even if only flypasts
Jags - Really liked how many Jaguars they wheeled out especially, nice to still see some even if only static.
Cons:
Lack of free water? I didn't see any stations although I may have missed some.
Food and drink vendors - £2.20 for a 500ml bottle of water is a joke. Most had run out by the end of the day, with only soft drinks at £2.50 per 500ml bottle.
Queuing - wasn't clear that the 'holding' car park which people queued in wasn't the actual car park which was confusing, I gather traffic was bad both in and out too.
Blocked Views - Possibly unavoidable, but the yellow fuel truck and crew ferries going along the crowdline ruined a few shots (especially the NZ 757 low pass).
Favorite display? Probably the Rafale, really tight with some lovely passes in there!

Just starting to sort through notes, lists and photographs. Anyone able to help out with the serials of the 5 Jaguars parked across the far side of the airfield from the crowd line..? Cheers in advance.
