The C-130 replaced the CASA as support and both types were needed elsewhere. It's not that baffling is it?
You want the Aladeen news, or the Aladeen news?

Well I'm more than happy with all the fast jets displaying!

Static wont be brilliant but as long as my ear drums are taking a beating then I don't mind too much! :D

Two lynx have gone into Westlands in the past hour,

One was a clean AH1/5/7 - quite unusual these days.
One was an AH1 with blue lower fuselge and white uppersides - presumably a Bosombe one

I'll have a looksie lunchtime to see what else is out down there.

Oooohhhhh - And now a nine ship of (mainly) HMA8's. Formation keeping needs a bit of work though chaps (and chapesses)

These 2 are for a display for the westland employees as part of their birthday. They are there until noon

Just heard a loud jet roar which might have been the Vixen departing Hurn, but there's so much low cloud it was impossible to see anything.

Just got home from VL. Vulcan has arrived but No Sea Vixen. Probably the worst arrivals day that I can remember, No mig practice, No f16 practice, or Tornados, still had a good laugh and should be a good show for tomorrow. Enjoy if your going.

I have heard the CVIX is probably arriving at some stage (unknown whether AM to refuel) tomorrow, hence it not arriving today.

As for the worst arrivals day......... cannot think of many worse in terms of visitors movements TBH.

tip for parking. Cheeky I know, but just drive into the car park off West Camel Road, you don't pay until you get out of your car and walk onto base.
Then walk down the lane to the field. That way you don't clog up the roads for everyone else.

When everyone left, only a few (literally) of us were left. The Polish Mig29 called up for his display practice but a real hefty shower came. He asked how long it would take, they said 10mins, it turned out to be 30mins or more.
After the assault demo the Dutch Apache took off and was absolutely the best helicopter display i've seen and totally FLAREtastic.

The Mig closed the canopy again and never got airborne but it was close.

So, was it a little sonic boom from the Rafale? Everyone underneath saw the vapour around the fuselage in a ring form and then BANG. Jester has it on video (although shooting the Super E with it instead of the Rafale) there is a definate "BOOM" just before the Rafale shuts off the power. Certainly was loud for those underneath it. It overtook the Super E like there was no tomorrow just before hand.

Definitely saw the shock cones, and have a picture of a nose emerging from a cloud as he turned over us :D

Wish I could have seen the apache, but I had to catch the 19:20 bus to get back at a reasonable hour...saw it flaring from the bus though as we went up the hill before Somerton :D

He will show the video when processed no doubt, you can definately make out the boom on the video over the noise of both jets but by "ear" it was much louder. The shock cones around the Rafale were certainly a lot different to the normal "G's" it pulls and considering it was straight and level at the time, it was very similar boom to the ones you see on Youtube from the F18s and F14s flying past their carriers. A short, Bang.

The Apache was darn awesome, it did more agile maneuvers than the Blue Eagles Lynx, i've never seen an Apache do that. Flares were full on, proper angel wings.
Trouble was, it was in and out of a big shower.... pants with 200mm...
