Flasheart, as I said, it is only my opinion and you are equally entitled to yours.

Maybe you could eloquently expand on why you think differently?

Nearly all UK-wide sporting and entertainment events have been cancelled over the past 24 hours, no doubt at significant financial loss and disruption to all concerned and that reflects the feeling within the nation relating to our sad loss.
Have they? I've seen more events confirming they're taking place than not!

I seem to recall that literally days after the tragic death of Princess Diana, the Queen officiated in the opening of the American Air Museum at Duxford. at the time I was quite surprised at this, as the event could have been postponed until after the funeral.
Now sadly the Queen (God bless her soul) has passed away. She only died on Thursday, has everything all of a sudden got to stop on account of this tragedy? What are we all supposed to do in the meantime, stay at home for the next ten days with the curtains drawn? Dress in black?
I'm sure on the day of her state funeral, the nation will be still in respect.
But in the meantime, life goes on.
Everyone has a photographic memory; some just don't have film.

Income and convenience put before 'doing the right thing', almost as though 70 years of service doesn't matter, shameful.
Just my opinion.

Which I have to say is also my opinion.
I do understand though that this is a highly emotive subject, with two distinct camps:
a) cancel everything until the funeral
b) show respect, and then continue with life - as has the Monarchy itself
As we know, the two European football matches on Thursday went ahead, given the short time period after the announcement. Suitable respect was given (silence etc) and then they were played. I'm struggling personally to understand why they cancelled all of this weekend's fixtures. Exactly the same respect could (and would) have been given.

Everyone has an opinion to which they are entitled and is fair enough, if I can add a little something, I used to work for a world famous theatre company which has Royal patronage, my wife still does, they have been given the go ahead to carry on with performances by the Royal family, this may be the case with other events.
If some choose to postpone or cancel events so be it.
If you can keep your head whilst all around are losing theirs, you have probably completely misread the situation!!

My personal view is that, yes, we are all in mourning, but the time to express our respect is on the day of the funeral. I also fervently believe that, were she in a position to have said so, Her Late Majesty would have been the first to say that she would wish everything to continue as normal. Just my view!. I was 10 when her Father, George V1 died. I was very disappointed that the cinema was closed as I was going to see Scrooge {bit irrelevant]. I think there is nothing to be gained by cancelling events, except on the Funeral Day.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but chatting with one of the Duxford staff yesterday, Buckingham Palace were consulted and Buckingham Palace said go ahead with it. IWM Museums are closing on the day of the funeral.

There is an official Government Mourning document of what you can and can't do as in 'There is no obligation to cancel or postpone events and sporting fixtures, or close entertainment venues
during the National Mourning period'.

From 'The_demise_of_Her_Majesty_Queen_Elizabeth_II-_National_Mourning_Guidance__1_.pdf'
MAJOR EVENTS, ENTERTAINMENT & SPORTS
There is no obligation to cancel or postpone events and sporting fixtures, or close entertainment venues
during the National Mourning period. This is at the discretion of individual organisations.
As a mark of respect, organisations might wish to consider cancelling or postponing events or closing
venues on the day of the State Funeral. They are under no obligation to do so and this is entirely at the
discretion of individual organisations.
If sporting fixtures or events are planned for the day of the State Funeral, organisations may want to adjust
the event timings so they do not clash with the timings of the funeral service and associated processions.
As a mark of respect, and in keeping with the tone of National Mourning, organisers may wish to hold a
period of silence and/or play the National Anthem at the start of events or sporting fixtures, and players
may wish to wear black armbands.

As I have been reliably informed, the National Anthem was played over the public address system(Tannoy in old money ;) ) and most people stood still. Just like the old days at the end of a cinema performance.

Totally agree ... we had this conversation yesterday and the general opinion was that HRH QEll would have wanted everyone to carry on as normal.

Did anyone that attended the show catch the name of the pilot who flew MH415 on Saturday. Thanks

The 2 minutes Silence at the start of the Airshow (to be ended by the solo Spitfire entry over the M11) was well respected! People that could, all stood up, still & silent until the Spitfire completed its Victory role (estimated at nearer to 2mins-30 sec') The only sound aside from the Spit' was a few babies & toddlers who didn't understand. Plus a few young teenagers quietly walking about unable to process the significance of the moment that tens of thousands of people respected HM E-II-R's passing! All together a poignant & well-executed gesture that more than justified the retention of the Air-show IMO.
The NHS Spitfire PL983 continued an elegant display immaculately flown by John Romain I believe?

Wasn't there, but seems to me that Ben Dunnells' list of pilots & aircraft read-out on PA.for Sunday after they landed, could include that info' for MH415/ZDE on their airshow recorded webcast of Saturday?

Happy to be proven wrong as I've slept since then, but I believe it was Dave Puleston.
