Farnborough Airshow

Post by steamy » Fri Jul 12, 2024 8:14 pm

Where can I watch the Farnborough airshow, without having to be at the airshow?

Any good local vantage points, which don't require trying to enter the restricted traffic areas?

Standing on the roadside near the Swan pub and the FAST museum. But is it worth it based on the list of attendees?

Depends whether you want mil only or civil too. Also where you live/how far you have to travel.

It's not too far away and it's a change from the next local riveting experience that is Southampton Airport, and not the hassle of doing Heathrow if you get caught in traffic.

Thanks, will look up the spot :thumb:

Sorry to have to ask this but has anyone ever been to both the Farnborough and Paris Airshows? Just I've only been to Paris and would have loved to have gone to Farnborough if it had stayed with the Weekend Show as unfortunately doing a Friday only Airshow would be a little tight for me... How different was the old school Farnborough to Paris?

I accidentally deleted my original post about the traffic and parking issues likely next week which i was intending to update

I had a look an hour or so ago as I was nearby and there is now a private car park between the pub garden and the road. There used to be a reasonable view of the runway from the footpath but it's mostly obstructed by vegetation. You could however probably see items once they are in the air. Alternatively walk down the road alongside the FAST Museum...if its open, or the next one to the North.

Numerous local road closures and additional parking restrictions will apply next week. The signs are stacked up just waiting to be put in place !

I'm not 100% certain but Eelmoor appears to be closed off to non-event traffic even during the hours when the A323 at that end is open.

I am looking to watch from outside tomorrow, anyone know if you can watch by the fence at the Laffans Lane end of the runway? I used to years ago by biking along the canal and it was OK. If not any good suggestions my plan was to drive somewhere close and bike in. Thanks
