News on flying displays

Post by cat1 » Thu Jul 13, 2023 5:44 pm

Any more news on flying displays?
Planning to on Friday and Saturday, now looks like the weather has other ideas.
I know the BBMF are grounded and meteor on static. Any news on the plans for Friday?
Sorry it's a bit jumbled :halo:

Many thanks

Full flying programme is still planned, I'm sure they will adapt throughout the day.

Cancellations and a shuffle are inevitable I think.

Go expecting nothing to fly - anything that does is a bonus.

Is Friday still an arrivals day or have they expanded it?

It's officially a display day with the occasional late arrival, but tomorrow it's going to become a waterpark.

Could be bad news for Saturday, with a yellow weather warning in place
The show and grounds under health and safety and insurance purposes
The show Saturday or even Friday could have to close.
Keep an eye out for a news feed from RIAT Friday.

Well said!

It applies to any and all aviation events, more so with large and complex gatherings such as RIAT when inclement weather plays a major role.

Go with an open mind and enjoy your day ... :)

Even in good weather the flight programme changes; aircraft serviceability issues, can't find the pilot, pilot can't find the keys etc., so the souvenir programme is pretty useless - not even any good for loo paper.

The commentary team try and keep up but often have no clue either.

It's a bit of a lottery. Either you lean on the flightline fence waiting hours for that rare aeroplane to take off (you know, the one you really bought the ticket and travelled 200 miles for) or you go for a wander round the statics to kill time and miss its only appearance...or it cancels.

...and everyone knows a Typhoon can't fly in the wet.

Hang on to your hats tomorrow, literally.
The organisers are going to have to keep the airfield safe from a FOD point of view, and with a strong southerly I can see that being an extra challenge

IAM5101 has landed @ Florennes AB. Maybe divert of the AMX? Or a gas and go?

It has landed @ Florennes a bit over 15:00 UK time but i heard new call on 306.600 Belga radar @ 16:20 uk time so I think it's on its way to RIAT after gas and go @ Florennes

F4 returned to Greece, the “broken” one that was at Aviano
