I was at RIAT 2017 and 19 on a FRIAT Mach 3 pass, on the first I went to the Eastern parking area and west on the second, for the life of me I cannot remember how one was directed to the area one desired.. are there signs pointing out east and west parking areas on approach to the base?
I was disappointed in my experience at the Eastern park and view probably because i did not get there early enough to b
grab a spot by the fence.. I dont know whether to try it again.. what is the concensus?

Those areas are known as "park and view". Just follow the yellow "Park and View" road signs to get to them.
You definitely need to be early to grab a good spot in the eastern park and view!

thanks nick,
I remember the approaches to the base being quite convoluted with road closures funneling traffic in desired patterns as you approach do you see signs directing you to one or another of the park and view? or do you go to a central position then break off to one or another?

If you approach Fairford on the Blue route (off the A419 by Cricklade), P&V West is sign posted at the junction for Marston Meysey, or carry straight on and pass through Kempsford, the signage for P&V East will be there.

I personally found the FRIAT grandstand to be great for departures in 2019...alas I be back down the Eastern end. Enjoy!

There's usually not much, if any traffic management on the Weds and Thurs. Once you get near the base they're both signposted and easy enough to find/get to.
Show days are a different kettle of fish....

thanks James,
the last 2 times I didnt do the departures, to avoid extra nights accommodation and knowing I would be absolutely knackered after 5 days at the airfield. This time though I am manning up and will be for departures

I (and many many others) have bought tickets on the day at P&V West both yesterday and today. I highly doubt they will not have sufficient tickets on the day - it hasn't been anything like full.

Thinking of doing P&V for the first time on Monday. How early is "early" to get a decent spot in east please?

First in the queue, with the queue starting to form from 0600 if not earlier
