Pleased so far, two harriers is awesome and the mig 21 is a big bonus. just hope it inst full of F16's again, hopefully less prop display teams too, i honestly find them so boring and not fit for RIAT. Needs to be either fast, loud or with a big flame out the back!

Not sure why there is negativity on forums and social media about multiple F-16s displaying. Yes it's nice to have a variety but those AM/BMs aren't going to be around forever. The more the merrier, it will be a type that will be sorely missed.

Minds gone blank, when was the last Norwegian or Danish display at RIAT?

Completely agree with Gary on the F-16 front. The F-16 is the primary fighter aircraft of Belgium, Denmark, Greece, Holland, Norway, Portugal and Turkey in Europe - would the naysayers rather these nations didn't turn up at all?

The same people that moan about 'too many F-16's' are the same that moan about too many props and too many display teams - unfortunately, they will only be happy with their completely unrealistic wish lists which usually consist of B-1B, B-2A, B-52H, F-14 etc.

With the F-35 likely to dominate the fighter market over the next decade or so (5 of the 7 European nations listed above already committed to buying the F-35 - not to mention the UK and Italy) I would say enjoy the F-16 whilst it lasts because it won't be around for too much longer in European skies at least.

Entirely agree! A solo F-16 usually ends up in my top 2 displays every year, Turk, Belgian and Zues usually top it. They're a brilliant jet and look remarkably modern considering their age. Long may it continue! At least they paint them up in amazing schemes. I think we'll be waiting a long long time before we have a tiger striped F-35b solo display!

Well Greece and Turkey can send the F4 instead for a start. That would leave Belgium and Poland in the flying display with F16's. For me personally they can all send as many as they like for the static park, no problem there.

Propeller driven display teams? There's a seaside airshow somewhere with your name on it...

I pay the Riat fees for rarities, not fillers

Then don't go if you don't like it. Don't moan that you pay "RIAT fees" for rarities not fillers. EVERY show has fillers, like Motorsport has filler events before the main event.

It's not just as simple as getting the Greek's and Turk's because you want them, considering the age of them too.

Couldn't agree more, can't wait for the naysayers moaning that they miss the F-16s when they are gone!

Agree totally with James, if you don't like the line up, then don't go, simple as that.. :S
If you can keep your head whilst all around are losing theirs, you have probably completely misread the situation!!

But I do like the majority of the line up and I DO like an F16 or two, but some of the participants are becoming the kind of thing you expect at a seaside show like Southport rather than what is still the alleged worlds best airshow.

Are we no longer allowed to make comments on this aspect of the show on an aviation forum without being called a serial moaner?

Surely the worlds best airshow should have a max limit of 2 displays of the same type (including display teams) on any given day while we still have the variation of aircraft that could potentially fill the display slots?

And why does James feel the necessity to reply to virtually every single comment in the Riat thread???

Mark,
The problem with that is you would seriously hack off some countries. Are you suggesting that if Denmark (for example) say "we can only supply you with an F-16 for RIAT, and it will display" RIAT should reply "sorry, but we've already got two of those, poke off".
Using a similar logic should we tell the Jordanians not to bother coming if they only want to send a C-130 (boring, same ones for the last 30 years)?

Accept all and give each a day. Always assuming that they get inundated by Vipers. Just to reiterate what I said earlier, i'm talking about the flying display and NOT the static park, all the F16's in a row would make a great photo!!

We need the Jordanians there or i'd probably wet myself through not getting a toilet break, haha!!

It wouldn't even be possible to do that, there isn't enough air frames around anymore to have such a great variety - Most countries fly the F-18, F-16, F-35, or a Typhoon. More a case of just enjoy it whilst you can, before they all just fly the F-35.

Could you imagine that, DBH: "Yeah sorry we can't accept your prop planes because someone says they belong by the seaside and we can't facilitate one of those....Yes we know you are popular with a lot of people but sorry, no"

Mark i completely agree with everything you have said, and thats all i was trying to say, the tattoo is meant to be the biggest military air show in the world where you see all the unique stuff you wouldn't normally see at an air show, so by putting up 5 f16's for displays gets a bit same old, i love they have the MIG 21, the harrier, fantastic, be great to have more of the unique kinda stuff.

and as for the prop teams, they are boring, you can clearly see it on the crowds faces, the blades team are 100% a seaside airshow, they go on far too long, i will actually say id rather see another F16 than the blades or anything like that haha! Only prop display team worthy of being at RIAT should be the BBMF which is class!
