Royal International Air Tattoo 2017 Discussion Thread
Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2017 Discussion Thread
There's just over 8 weeks to go (not that I'm counting!?) So there's still plenty of time to confirm acts (B2..cough, cough!)

Alfie wrote:As RIAT is celebrating the 70th anniversary of the US Air Force, wouldn't it be nice to see Sally-B at Fairford this year.
The B17s flew with the US Army Air Force during the second World War.
The US Air Force was formed in 1947, hence the 70th Anniversary!
Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2017 Discussion Thread
RB-17s continued in service until '49, SB-17s until the mid '50s. So as a representative of the generic type Sally B would fit right in.

So did the P51 Mustang and P40 Kittyhawk but they are both booked for RIAT. While it is the USAF 70th, it also allows for honoring the predecessor in which brought about the formation of the USAF. It is all part of the heritage.XPLUMBER wrote:Alfie wrote:As RIAT is celebrating the 70th anniversary of the US Air Force, wouldn't it be nice to see Sally-B at Fairford this year.

Once upon a time.......there was this active base called Bentwaters
.......where I saw this machine in April 1977....

Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2017 Discussion Thread
And earlier than that there was its twin base called Woodbridge, still occasionally operational, where the beast was seen in July 1974.

Update 18th May
Small solid update
http://www.airtattoo.com/airshow/aircra ... dates-2017The ever-impressive A400M display from Airbus Defence and Space returns to the skies above Fairford this July, demonstrating the power and agility of this 21st Century transporter. Another Airbus Defence and Space product joins the static park in the form of a Royal Air Force Voyager Multi Role Tanker Transport (MRTT). The Royal Danish Air Force confirms their Challanger 604 and the Slovenian Air Force will bring a Let L.410 to supplement the already announced PC-9.

A400M always a great display, makes a change from all those fast grey jets. Let's hope we get an Osprey again this year.
Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2017 Discussion Thread
Nice update today, adds more to the ever increasing static park and the A400M is a welcome addition and breaks up the fast jets as Alfie mentions above.

Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2017 Discussion Thread
Bank Holiday weekend coming up, the last two have been surprise weekends with multiple acts confirmed.
Are we expecting a similar situation this weekend?
The US contingent does seem pretty poor seeing as it's just over 7 weeks away and it is their big bash after all. Maybe this weekend could be very, very fruitful?
Still no SoloTurk or Hungarians confirmed yet plus the ever increasing Romanian MiG-21/Polish SU-22 chatter.
Could this be the weekend of multiple OMG moments? Looking at the ongoing list and the self confirmed acts there are still some potentially brilliant items to be added!
This year is looking to be great either way!

Would be nice, not expecting anything, though.
Suspect we'll see more in the way of USAF additions as we enter June, seemed to be the case in the early noughties.
Expecting Solo Turk and the Hungarian Gripen to be added fairly soon, of course it's just a case of when they receive official confirmation from the respective countries.

Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2017 Discussion Thread
RAF static is shockingly thin.
Obviously operations always come first, but it would be nice to see a C-17, A400M, Herc, Sentry, Sentinel, Shadow, RC-135, Typhoons, Tornados and as a complete wish, although incredibly unlikely, an RAF/FAA F-35B.
Next year is the big one for the RAF's anniversary. I dread to think the minuscule number of aircraft that'll be available.

Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2017 Discussion Thread
RAF statics are usually one of the last to confirm, they don't tend to commit frontline aircraft until a couple of weeks before the show, don't worry quite yet.
Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2017 Discussion Thread
Thanks MRTT. I get as much enjoyment from walking down the line and looking at the static stuff as I do watching everything in the flying display.
Hopefully it will bulk out a bit.
Do you think the B-1 and B-52 will be parked on the North side?

Both the B-1 & B-52 will be parked on the South Side, they're on static display.
Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2017 Discussion Thread
First NOTAMS for the airshow has been issued
not long now

Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2017 Discussion Thread
Show certainly shaping up....having seen the pics I'm hoping now for the NAEWF E-3 to be either LX-N90450 or LX-N90458...can't decide whether I want the tiger or anniversary scheme...

Yeah she sure is a beauty - I have been chatting with the company regarding the ins and outs of them bringing her over here for RIAT.
