Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2013
I know what airshow I won't be going to this year

Flying prevails whenever a man and his airplane are put to a test of maximum performance.
Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2013
Please say there's been more??? This is going to be the worst RIAT ever! Was hoping today's update might be as good as yeovilton's has been this week,, any chance of 50% discount? because there's gonna be less than half the amount of aircraft there was last year.
Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2013
So, once you get over the fact it's 2013, not 1983, and there's just not as much money - or indeed aircraft - left in the world any more, who's looking forward to the show? I'm not able to make the show itself, but will be doing departures day.
Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2013
What do you mean there's not as much money?? Price of tickets still over £40 isn't it? That's a hell of a lot of money if you ask me.
Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2013
Do you remember 1983 Chris?....ChrisGlobe wrote:So, once you get over the fact it's 2013, not 1983, and there's just not as much money - or indeed aircraft - left in the world any more, who's looking forward to the show? I'm not able to make the show itself, but will be doing departures day.

Sign of the times with cutbacks to Air Arms world wide is the reason I imagine. There are still a lot of excellent acts out there, just look at what Yeovilton, Waddington, Radom etc have lined up.
Some of the stuff RIAT have is second to none, and wont be seen anywhere else, which is a credit to the team in DBH. I think were due a major update in the coming month and theres still about 13 more updates to follow isnt there? I think by the time July comes along we will all be quite happy with what has been laid before us.
We have been spoiled in the past, and the lack of US participation will hit RIAT, no doubt. And we all remember the glory years, but I think 99.9% of people realise those days are long gone - if you dont - WAKE UP!

I don't (I'm not an old git like youDunk wrote:Do you remember 1983 Chris?....![]()

GVLCN - you realise that RIAT have to pay to get air arms and civilian operators to come, don't you? Pilots don't just jump in aircraft on Friday afternoon and decide to spend the weekend in Gloucestershire!

Have you been to Legends lately, its £30 entrance for that show this year, and you only get a 1/4 of the flying you get at RIAT
I do what the voices in my head tell me to do!!!!

Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2013
But is 2013,s flying display going to be 1/4 or more of other years?going on what we,ve been told so far the flying display will be over by dinner...
Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2013
Think he could be referring to the line ups of say Waddington and Yeovil, you can get in both the shows for the same price as RIAT.Bluetail wrote:GVLCN wrote:What do you mean there's not as much money?? Price of tickets still over £40 isn't it? That's a hell of a lot of money if you ask me.

So add in the number of Aircraft at Waddo and Yeovil.
Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2013
A price for an adult to watch 90(ish) minutes of generally very poor football in the Scottish Premier League start at £20 - £25.
The cheapest adult ticket for this year's British Grand Prix is £145.
RIAT adult tickets for a full day are £40 on the Sunday and £45 on the Saturday.
I know which I'd rather go to - it isn't the football or the F1 !

Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2013
I think everyone should stop getting their knickers in a twist and see what materialises over the next few weeks. There are some Air Forces that tend not to firm up until the last minute and bear in mind RIAT have a lot of negotiating to do with people to get their Assets over, I wouldn't mind betting that from a week or two's time the updates are a fair bit more lengthier. Also having a scan down the list there are countries that usually turn up such as Belgium, Germany, Oman, etc etc so don't lose faith, the guys there work darn hard and don't stop trying until the last minute.
Mike, well said on the prices, as far as value for money goes for an entire days entertainment the value for money is still better than football, F1 or a day at a Test Match. If people object to paying that much they could always apply to be a volunteer, you make some great mates, have some great nights down at the Bull and the work is far more enjoyable than sitting behind my little office desk (even if I just bang pegs in!)

This is beginning to sound like some other forums I could mention...but won't.
I guess if you don't like the RIAT line-up, then don't go, if you think it will be ok, then do, it's simples really, isn't it?
What will be, will be...just enjoy while we get it, and smile

If you can keep your head whilst all around are losing theirs, you have probably completely misread the situation!!

Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2013
Although i do enjoy the new way DBH interacts with Jo Public by leeting us know whats been invited and what replies they have had, I would genuinely like a year where by the announce nothing until a month before.
Only problem is it would probably be pre ticket sales suicide! And the rumour mil would go in to overdrive, especially as a lot of the acts advertise their display dates from Feb onwards.
Oh for the old days of squinting into the approach wondering what was going to turn up...
Damn you internet!

Dunk, I couldn't agree more. Not knowing what to expect to arrive added greatly to the buzz. I do miss those days. However, I'll be still there, come what may. Haven't miss one since the second show at North Weald in 1973.

The Air Tattoo is aware that the website for France's premier aerobatics display team, the Patrouille de France, states that the popular team is scheduled to attend the Air Tattoo in July. As soon as we receive official confirmation from the French Air Force we shall let you know. The same applies to the Rafale Solo Display, whose website also lists RAF Fairford as its only UK display venue.
