RIAT 2020 Cancelled
Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2020 Discussion Thread
Latest Update - 27 February 2020
This week we received great news from the Royal Navy. They will be sending examples of all their aircraft types for static display at RIAT 2020! Their new Wildcat HM2 solo display will also participate in the weekend flying display.
We have received communication from various squadrons within the US Navy who would like to send aircraft for static display at RIAT 2020. We are establishing formal contact with them and hope they will be present at Fairford in July.
Today our CEO, Operations Director & Head of Air Operations are travelling to Brussels to attend the European Airshow Council Convention. The event brings together delegates from 25 to promote excellence and safety at European Airshows. This year's convention will focus on the sustainability of airshows, in a period where Climate Change is at the forefront of many nations thinking. Our team also be networking with representatives from many European Air Arms and hope to discuss their participation plan for 2020. We therefore hope to bring you good news from EAC in next week's update.
The news on the us navy this looks promising.

Wildcat often a good display, and the news about the US Navy is great

Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2020 Discussion Thread
Nice update, for a foreigner like me it's great to see some Royal Navy action as well
And of course the US Navy is nice to see
On their site it's also stated that they are discussing with Sweden, Jordan, Pakistan and the Czech republic, which sounds good

Don't think the Royal Navy have any yet...
Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2020 Discussion Thread
Does anyone on here think that dbh will have any special updates this year or will they just announce there updates on Thursday's, I'm mainly asking after the disastrous attempts of those " extra special updates " that weren't on a Thursday which more often than not took away things from the Thursday update?
Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2020 Discussion Thread
I would have thought they've already been paid for and like the RNZAF MB.339 that attended Boscombe Down ATI '90 that hadn't been handed over to the RNZ air force and was still owned by the manufacturer at the time. So it is not beyond the realms of possibilityAndy Marden wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2020 6:52 amWell yes, but they don't belong to them until they've been paid for and handed over....

Ah, my bad. I thought 207 Squadron was a Navy Squadron for some unknown reason!

Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2020 Discussion Thread
Any thoughts about whether the coronavirus could be a factor in any airshows, including RIAT, this year?

Could be a chance. Hard to tell at the moment, guess time will tell.

Little bit underwhelmed by today's announcement, living in Somerset and seeing Wildcats most days flying overhead doesn't make me very excited about a solo Wildcat display also the fact that I have already brought my Yeovilton ticket and if it is anything like last year they will have a pair of Wildcats doing a display including the use of flares.

Be surprised if it has flares in the display, pretty sure they can't use them at RAF Fairford. Can't have all the great updates all the time

Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2020 Discussion Thread
He meant at Yeovilton James.

To those people who don't live in Somerset (Yes we do exist!
) or aren't going to Yeovilton, this could be a good announcement for them! Besides which, this particular one doesn't just involve 'one Wildcat flying' it also tells us of the RN's intention to send at least one of every type they have, so I'd say fair play to the Navy boys for supporting the show.

To be fair, the Wildcat display at Southport was a decent display. They used pyrotechnics in their display but not to the extent of the Apache display.

Got you, thanks.

With respect to bizfreeq the Fleet Air Arm sending one of everything to Fairford is no different to other years, it's what most of us has come to expect from them.

Well, Alfie, if it happens every year they have to announce it at some point! I would say better than no update at all and personally I think a Royal Navy Wildcat display is a welcome addition considering the lack of 'home team' flying display items.
