Are the SWAfHF flying at Yeovilton
Re: RIAT 2014 - News and updates here please
Then looks like you'll miss out, as a commercial entity, RIAT can't be the same as others and it might simply not make economic sense to book the SHF - as much as we'd all want it to.seven wrote:How about those of us that cant get to Waddo or Yeovil? Now there's a thought!Paulo wrote:I must be the only one sort of glad the Swedish HF isn't doing RIAT (potentially), if they did what would be worth travelling to Waddington or Yeovil for?
Seem's slightly silly that people want the same aircraft at all 3 or 4 major airshows - YAWN!

Guess those of you that can only do RIAT, only do Waddington or Yeovilton instead

Scorpion Eyed For RIAT, Farnborough Debut
Textron is hoping to send its Scorpion prototype light attack, reconnaissance aircraft to an international coming-out at the U.K.’s Royal International Air Tattoo and Farnborough Air Show in July.
RIAT is set for July 11-13. Farnborough is the following week.
Industry sources say thus far the company has been able to work through the FAA’s requirements to do so. “Farnborough is among the international shows being considered for Scorpion,” says David Sylvestre, a Textron spokesman. He cautioned, however, that planning is still under way and the trip is not a done deal.
Scorpion, a clean-sheet, light attack/reconnaissance aircraft, was conceived by Textron in an attempt to fill a gap between armed turboprop trainers and jet-powered, high-performance fighters. Company officials are targeting a $3,000/hr. operating cost that would be appealing to smaller air forces.
Textron and AirLand, a small company formed to promote Scorpion, began building the demonstrator in January 2012; it first flew in December 2013 for 1.4 hr. It has since racked up nearly 60 hr. of flying. The aircraft was unveiled in Aviation Week in September.
Though company officials are hoping the U.S. Air Force would buy some of the aircraft, its best chances are for sales internationally.
With a ferry range of 2,400 nm, the aircraft likely would take a northern route, making a few stops along the way to the U.K., industry sources say.

Re: RIAT 2014 - News and updates here please
Max, if they make it across the Atlantic it looks like 3 F35Bs will be operating out of Fairford to support RIAT and Farnborough, which means 3 arrivals probably by the Thursday before the show, followed by single aircraft display practices and certification then show displays at Fairford. The following week will include launches from Fairford for the display dates and times at Farnborough until the last show day, then departure to wherever they go after wards. You will get plenty of opportunities and are pretty much guaranteed to see it over your garden during that time period.Skywatcher wrote:If they land on 09 it doesn't mater because I'll see them ether way on the ground and I'll probably see them when they do their initial run and break .

Civilian SQUADRON TYPE
Confirmation has come that three examples of the Lockheed Martin F-35B Lightning II, the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF), will make the new multi-role combat aircraft's European debut in the flying and static displays at the Royal International Air Tattoo 2014. Two of the aircraft are expected to come from the US Marine Corps, which is currently introducing the F-35B to service, while the third will be an example destined for the UK, which will operate the Lightning II in a joint Royal Air Force/Royal Navy effort.
The Royal Netherlands Air Force's F-16AM Fighting Falcon solo display, this year being provided by 322 and 323 Squadrons at Leeuwarden with new demo pilot Capt Jeroen 'Slick' Dickens, will be making its sole UK appearance of the year at this summer's Royal International Air Tattoo. This forms part of the show's tribute to the 40th anniversary of the F-16. Also coming from the Netherlands, this time for static display, is a Dornier 228-212 maritime surveillance aircraft operated by the Dutch Coastguard under the administrative control of Air Force unit 334 Squadron, a C-130H Hercules and an additional two F-16's.
Leading American aerospace company Beechcraft is again set to participate in the Royal International Air Tattoo this year. It will send two examples of its T-6 Texan II turboprop trainer and light attack aircraft, together with a King Air 350 twin-turboprop multi-purpose aircraft.
QinetiQ is sending four aircraft from its Boscombe Down-based test and evaluation fleet, as also operated by the Empire Test Pilots' School, to the Royal International Air Tattoo 2014. A Hawk T1, hopefully the prototype aircraft XX154, will join the type's 40th anniversary celebration, while a recently-acquired Avro RJ70 will make its Air Tattoo debut. Completing the selection will be an Alpha Jet A and an Agusta A109E Power helicopter.
A very rare Italian visitor to the Royal International Air Tattoo 2014 will be the Piaggio R166C operated by a civilian group called I Fenicotteri (The Flamingos).
The Air Tattoo has in the past seen participation by Italian Air Force P166s, but this example of the gull-winged light transport has never seen military service. Piaggio used the aircraft as its demonstrator for the civilian P166C before it was sold to Milan-based company Transavio. Later it fell into disrepair, but I Fenicotteri started a lengthy restoration that took 17,000 hours to complete. Registered now as an R166C, it flew again in November 2011.
The familiar sight of a Robinson R44 piloted by RAF Charitable Trust Enterprises Chairman Alan Smith will once again touch down at RAF Fairford for this summer's airshow. The aircraft performs a valuable support role during the event.
We are aware of the recent article in Aviation Week stating that Textron is hoping that its Scorpion prototype light attack, reconnaissance aircraft will make its European debut at this summer's Air Tattoo. The story states planning was ongoing and the trip was not a 'done deal'.
The Turkish Air Force will be sending its impressive Solotürk display of an F-16C Fighting Falcon to RIAT 2014. Solotürk previously appeared at the Air Tattoo in 2011, scooping the King Hussein Memorial Sword for best overall flying demonstration on its UK debut. Capt Yusuf Kurt is in the hot seat this time, as Turkey makes its contribution to RIAT's celebrations of the F-16's 40th anniversary.
