A very rare sight in the flying display, one not witnessed for a long time at a public event, will be that of RAF, German Air Force and Italian Air Force Tornados giving a number of formation flypasts. This will mark 35 years since the now disbanded Tri-National Tornado Training Establishment received its first aircraft at RAF Cottesmore.

Textron Aviation has confirmed that it will bring to RIAT this year a number of interesting special mission aircraft from its extensive product range. Following its world debut at last year's Air Tattoo, the Textron AirLand Scorpion tactical jet is due to re-appear, accompanied by a Beechcraft AT-6B Texan II light attack aircraft and a Beechcraft Baron G58 intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance platform.

Grob Aircraft of Germany is sending a G120TP basic turboprop trainer for static display. This type will in future provide elementary flying training to UK military student pilots, being part of the Affinity Group's successful bid for the fixed-wing element of the Military Flight Training System (MFTS) programme.

Since announcing last month that the Czech Air Force will be sending a JAS-39C Gripen and Mil Mi-24V/Mi-35 'Hind' for our flying display and an L-159 ALCA (Advanced Light Combat Aircraft) and a C295 transport for static, we've been informed the Czechs intend sending a second Mil Mi-24V/Mi-35 for static display.

Today's update 14th May
The Army Air Corps has confirmed its contribution to RIAT 2015. In the flying display it will demonstrate a pair of Apache AH1 attack helicopters from 3 Regiment at Wattisham; a third example of that type will be on static display, along with a Defender AL1 of 651 Squadron and a rarely-seen 665 Squadron Gazelle AH1. Both of the latter will be making the trip from Aldergrove in Northern Ireland.

Alongside the A-200 Tornado that will be flying in RIAT's 35th anniversary tribute to the Tri-National Tornado Training Establishment, the Italian Air Force has confirmed that it is sending a pair of F-2000A Typhoons and a C-27J Spartan, all for the static park.

Several more RAF aircraft have been confirmed for RIAT 2015. The spectacular Chinook display is this year provided by an upgraded HC4 model for the first time, and is crewed by No 27 Squadron; also from the support helicopter force will come a Puma HC2 for static display. Planning to make a very pleasing return to the Air Tattoo's static park after several years' absence is a Sentry AEW1 airborne early warning and surveillance aircraft from No 8 Squadron. Three more Typhoons have been added to the static list, one each from Nos 1, 6 and XI Squadrons. Plans are for the 1(F) Squadron Typhoon to be the aircraft carrying the hornet marking as carried by the Hurricane Mk 1 P3395 'JX-B', the personal aircraft of Sergeant Pilot Arthur 'Darkie' Clowes DFM, of No 1 Squadron, during the Battle of Britain. BBMF Hurricane LF363 is painted to represent this very aircraft and will also be seen at RIAT 2015. Additionally, XI Squadron intend to bring along their 100th Anniversary schemed aircraft known as 'Dixie'.

Augmenting the contingent of Royal Navy aircraft in the RIAT 2015 static park will be a Sea King HC4 commando helicopter from 848 Naval Air Squadron at RNAS Yeovilton. This means that all three variants of the Sea King as operated by the Fleet Air Arm will appear together at the Air Tattoo for the last time, as the type is gradually being retired.

QinetiQ is sending four aircraft from its Boscombe Down-based test and evaluation fleet, as also operated by the Empire Test Pilots' School, to the Royal International Air Tattoo 2015. A Hawk T1, an Alpha Jet A and an Agusta A109E Power helicopter will be joined by a Diamond DA42 Twin Star, the latter a relatively new addition to the QinetiQ inventory.

Swiss aerospace firm RUAG is sending a Swiss Air Force AS332TH06 Super Puma for static display, augmenting the example in the flying programme. RUAG works closely with the Swiss Air Force on engineering, upgrade programmes, system integrations and logistical management for the Super Puma fleet.

Some excellent news from the US Air Force, which has initially confirmed the attendance of two aircraft for static display at RIAT 2015 - a CV-22B Osprey from Air Force Special Operations Command's 7th Special Operations Squadron at RAF Mildenhall and an MC-130J Commando II version of the Hercules, operated by the 67th Special Operations Squadron.

Bolstering the Royal Air Force's involvement in the RIAT 2015 static park will be three 'heavy' aircraft from the air mobility units stationed at RAF Brize Norton: a Voyager KC2 tanker/transport provided by the AirTanker consortium, a C-17A Globemaster III strategic airlifter from No 99 Squadron, and a Hercules C5 tactical transport from either No 24 or No 70 Squadron.

This summer will see us welcome back the Hungarian Air Force who have agreed to send two aircraft for the static park: a JAS 39 Gripen fighter and an Antonov An-26 transport.

Further additions to the list of civilian aircraft on static display at RIAT 2015 include a Bell 429 provided by its manufacturer Bell Helicopter, three ex-RAF Bulldog T1s operated by the Pitbull Formation, and an Ikarus C42 microlight from airborne Aviation at Popham in Hampshire.

Stephen Stead is providing his Spitfire LFXVIe, TE184, for the static display as part of the Battle of Britain 75th anniversary theme. Stephen keeps the aircraft at the Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar when it is in the UK, but it is an especially frequent participant at events in central and eastern Europe. The aircraft is painted in the markings of World War Two Czechoslovakian air ace Otto Smik who flew with 312 Sqn, RAF. Coincidentally, this year, the Slovak Air Force is attending with an L-39CM Albatros, which is also painted up to commemorate Otto Smik, one of their national heroes.

Though not participating in the Air Tattoo itself, a number of aircraft touch down at RAF Fairford bring a number of VIP/guests. So far, these comprise the Piper Aztec and Cessna Citation of Marshall Aerospace, and a Cessna Citation Sovereign from Cartier Europe.

We have been informed by the Czech Air Force that the JAS-39C Gripen due to take part in the flying display has had to be withdrawn for operational reasons and will no longer be attending the airshow.

Glad we decided a while ago that we were going on our annual trip for a beer and some laughs with the lads rather than aircraft flying. Before you say it I know air forces are stretched and money tight and we do t have the aircraft we used to etc etc.
Hooping there's a show stopper of a surprise in the next update

Today's update 4th June
We are delighted to announce confirmation of USAF participation at this summer's Air Tattoo. Last week we were able to announce the first UK airshow appearance of a CV-22B Osprey from Air Force Special Operations Command's 7th Special Operations Squadron at RAF Mildenhall for static display. We can now reveal that a second will perform a role demo in the flying display.

Joining the MC-130J Commando II, which was announced last week, on static display will be a 351st Air Refuelling Squadron KC-135R Stratotanker, two 493rd Fighter Squadron F-15C Eagles, and - making a very welcome return for the type - a pair of A-10C Thunderbolt IIs from the 354th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron who are currently on deployment to Europe.

This week also brings another addition from the Royal Netherlands Air Force - We can now confirm another Boeing AH-64D Apache for this year's static park.
