As a caravanner, I would say that the Motor-home/caravan price is totally OTT - especially as there is no electric hook-up. But, they have got a "desperate" market, so they will be able to get away with it.RIAT appear to have their own campsite. Not being a camper and only going for the Saturday, this is what they are charging,is it a fair price:
Four camping options within easy walking distance of the Red Customer Entry Point:
Self Pitch - bring you own tent (minimum 2 nights) - £15pppn plus a £10 pitch fee
Motor-home/caravan (no electric hook-up) - £30 per night plus a £10 pitch fee
Pre-pitched tent (let someone else set it up!) - £175 for two nights for up to 4 people
From their web page: they "will be open from 9am till 7pm from Wednesday through to Sunday."
Note however, there's a minimum booking of 2 nights at: "Pitch Price £10 plus £30 per night. "; so just Saturday night would cost you £70
Boutique camping - Bell tents with proper beds! Quads, triple or double sizes from £475 for 2 nights
Just as a comparison, I looked at the prices for Sandy Balls (nr. Fordingbridge in Hampshire) for the same Friday and Saturday nights. Their price would be £90 for a fully serviced pitch (electric, water and drainage) - plus, of course, access to a vast amount of on-site amenities (restaurants, swimming pool, club house, entertainment, boutiques, etc). Remember, though, that Sandy Balls is one of the most expensive in the country.
Re: RIAT 2016 -RAF Fairford - Airshow Information
Yes, Robin, but I only used Sandy Balls as a price comparison purely because it is so expensive. Its location relative to Fairford never came into the equation.
Re: RIAT 2016 -RAF Fairford - Airshow Information
This is just my personal opinion, but the list of aircraft attending etc is already in the RIAT website, and since they're the source of the invitees, is it worth duplicating what they have already done and already update? Would save you time!
The frequency list is useful though the most useful thing for me would be the display schedule for the day I'm attending since I generally refuse to pay the extortionate price for a programme with tens of pages of advertising and two pages of display schedule. Shame RIAT don't produce a simple display schedule for £1, or even include it free since the tickets are very expensive already.

Re: RIAT 2016 -RAF Fairford - Airshow Information
My thoughts as well regarding the participant listing
I think the list of attendees is a good idea for historical purposes
Although RIAT give you a list of who has been invited and or confirmed attending, that's really all you get. The list here on Fighter Control is going to include serials, operator, if it is displaying, and other notes
I think that might be good for anyone requiring that in the future. I personally used Google regarding the 2009 show and was lead to some discussion here.
So, kind of a pain... yes
Appreciated years later.... most definitely
Cheers!

Re: RIAT 2016 -RAF Fairford - Airshow Information
Any heads up as to when the FF F-22s are planned to arrive.
Were they coming with the F-35A to Fairford or perhaps going to Lakenheath first?
cheers
Mike

What a brilliant post. Many thanks

Re: RIAT 2016 -RAF Fairford - Airshow Information
Great to have the show time-blocks, thanks. The F35B doesnt not appear to have any slot? Is that true, or have I not spotted it. Love to see it hover on Sunday.

Re: RIAT 2016 -RAF Fairford - Airshow Information
Black cats were on 254.4875 for Saturday's display (picked up with CloseCall on a Uniden).
Re: RIAT 2016 -RAF Fairford - Airshow Information
Can confirm that Team Zeus was using 136.000 as noted in previous posts. Also heard radio chatter with the F18 pilot on 123.4750 during and after his display. Not sure who he was talking with exactly.
Re: RIAT 2016 -RAF Fairford - Airshow Information
During the F22/F35 heritage flight on Saturday I heard A2A comms between the two aircraft on either 255.100 or 255.150. Sorry but I can't remember which it was.

Ramex were using: 244.650 for ground comm's
Frecce were using: 362.625
Pat' Swiss were using: 359.45
Picked up broken comm's on 141.725 AM (unid)
also had some hits on Close call one being a re broadcast of the comentary in the 400mhz range (I didn't save as was uninterested).
+ An American Airlines calling up London control FL200-300 above which is one of the furthest 'close calls' I think I've had?
Although I don't use it much..
Most of the others were on Tower freq & the afore mentioned frequencies.
Although I had 2 radios on the go (3500XLT & 396XT) I'm sure I missed loads
Krilla Oluje Didn't use their usual 300.000 Am.
I had more than 50 freq's saved & only got hit on a dozen or so

"Robin" (location EGVV), who was an ATC expert and posted lots of information on ATC matters and also on RIAT, died mid-February 2017 after a long battle with cancer. RIP.

Oh, a real shame
I spoke with him quite regularly, especially during RIAT week, and he was a thoroughly nice bloke.

Re: RIAT 2016 -RAF Fairford - Airshow Information
That is sad news
Same as Chris, I also used to chat with him via PMs. He was an asset to the forum especially around RIAT time

Re: RIAT 2016 -RAF Fairford - Airshow Information
Sad news indeed, RIP blue skies!
