That is indeed good news if that's the case. And if it actually makes it!

Why do you use the term "Balbo", wasn't he an Italian fascist?

"Massed flypast" would do !

Yes, I know ! The "Big wing" from Duxford used the same word during the Battle of Britain.

During Balbo's stay in the United States, President Franklin D. Roosevelt invited him to lunch and presented him with the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was awarded the 1931 Harmon Trophy. The Sioux even honorarily adopted Balbo as "Chief Flying Eagle". Balbo received a warm welcome in the United States, especially by the large Italian-American populations in Chicago and New York. To a cheering mass in Madison Square Garden he said: "Be proud you are Italians. Mussolini has ended the era of humiliations."After this, the term "Balbo" entered common usage to describe any large formation of aircraft. Back home in Italy, he was promoted to the newly created rank of Marshal of the Air Force (Maresciallo dell'Aria).
Courtesy of good old Wiki .......
Upgrading military as well as commercial aviation, Balbo became famous for his promotion of mass international flights to demonstrate Italy’s air power.
Or Britannica .........

Good stuff Tom, but why can't we just call it a "massed flypast" - after all we are (mostly) British and the term "Balbo" means nothing to most people.

Outside of Duxford, I dont think I've heard it used. Ever.

But then, as Dan says, it's a word, so I really couldn't care less - just some planes in the sky at the end of the day, whatever you wish to call it.

Today's update
A team from the Air Tattoo attended this week's British Air Display Association (BADA) and MAA (Military Aviation Authority) pre-season airshow symposium at the Defence Academy, Shrivenham.

RIAT 2015 will see the first ever participation in a British flying display by the Hellenic Air Force, when its F-16 demo team 'Zeus' makes its UK debut. Formed in 2009-10, the Greek air arm's solo Fighting Falcon display is unique in using the Block 52+ variant of the F-16C, equipped with the distinctive conformal fuel tanks. Aircraft and pilot are provided by 115 Combat Wing at Souda.

LATEST UPDATE: 05/03/15

RIAT 2015 is delighted to welcome back the Royal Jordanian Falcons, the national aerobatic team of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, with its four Extra EA300L high-performance aerobatic aircraft. The team has appeared regularly at the Air Tattoo since 1979, when it first attended with a pair of Pitts Specials. Their continued and welcome participation perpetuates the long-lasting link between Jordan and the Air Tattoo, which also continues today through HRH Prince Faisal bin Al Hussein who is Patron of the Air Tattoo's Flying Scholarships for Disabled People charity.

The Tunisian Air Force has confirmed that they have accepted our invitation to attend and will be sending a senior military delegation to this summer's Air Tattoo.

Once again performing its important support role over the airshow, G-RAVN, the Robinson R44 helicopter flown by RAF Charitable Trust Enterprises' Chairman (and RAF Charitable Trust Trustee) Alan Smith, will once again touch down at RAF Fairford in the summer.
A team from the Air Tattoo will be attending the European Airshow Council convention (EAC) which takes place in Antwerp on March 13-14.

Brilliant addition don't get me wrong, I look forward to seeing them at RIAT. Apart from the take off and first couple of passes, once you get over the fact it's seeing two Mirage 2000Ns strutting their stuff. The rest of the routine does not live up to hype. Personally give me the old Tornado role demo. But if true well done DBH and I look forward to raiding your stall Ramex Delta
