Parking - Friday

Post by sneezy24 » Mon Jun 02, 2014 3:23 pm

I've only done P&V on a Monday before, but have got tickets for Friday this year (and will probably amble over on Monday as well!)

1. Arriving from Reading I take the BLUE route? How far is the car park from the entry gate??

2. I understand shuttle busses are running from Swindon station on Friday, anyone with any experience (good and bad) of these, it is a fairly easy journey to Swindon, probably easier than driving and stewing in the traffic? Monday will be driving to P&V East (unless wind favours west).

Can't answer Q2, but for Q1 - yes the Blue would work for you, and (depending how deep you are in the car park) Blue Gate is a short 5 min walk away from the car park.

Thanks.

Still undecided, only done P&V before, might try train/shuttle bus on Friday.

Friday all parking is on base is it not?.

According to the map they have released, it looks like the Blue entrance will be open on Friday. So you'd expect the Blue car park to be open? Unless the Blue entrance will be for Kempsford residents and they expect everyone else to park in the Red car park. http://www.airtattoo.com/airshow/visiti ... d-map-2014

All 3 car parks will be open on the Friday.

Red/Green are on base, hard standing.
Blue is off base, but with considerable amounts of trackway for resilience.

Can anyone help a new RIATer please ?
We are camping near Whelford and have purchased tickets for Saturday - we plan to walk, not use the car.
...are pre-purchase tickets assigned a specific gate (can't see anything on the ticket) - so can we just turn up to the Easter Red gate with our tickets ?

Thanks

Just to add and to clear up any confusion the OP has, The friday is not a standard Park and View day. Its an official show day with half the site open to ticket holders. Therefore you do not need to approach it as a Park and view day. car parks and Eastern entrances will all be open as usual.

Thanks for the prompt reply EGCC.

Just another quick one - what's the latest recommended date to buy online tickets ? Got someone hedging their bets whether to join us or not - does Saturday sell out ?

Thanks

What is the best arrival time at security gate on Saturday morning ?
I know it's a subjective question, but is there an average time when the queues peak - am just trying to plan how early we should leave the campsite
Thank

Re the tickets question: I would buy as soon as possible now - looks like it's going to get tight. Saturday sold out last year - glorious weather though.
Definately no tickets on the day.

Re the queues question - there's no 'best time'. Queues start forming really early, but once moving they flow quite quickly.
In the past my view was always to get there for early doors as i always reckoned the queues would be shorter before all the families had got organised and arrived :)

But I don't have that problem now as I am already on the other side....

For the queues - ok thanks, we are camping in Whelford, so we will aim for early start as we can - thanks again

Just another thing to add. Once in and past red gate security, buses will take you take you to near the RIAT control tower so you don't have so far to walk. Get a good view of aircraft parked whilst riding in.
