+1

As things currently stand I’m not convinced I’d spend the time on going despite the sunk cost of the tickets. Fingers crossed they pull something out of the hat.

Did you just copy what someone on UKAR said about 10 mins before you did on here about same subject? Unless you are same person?

While there is no stand out star so far, there is still a lot I am looking forward to.

Spitfire pairs, BBMF, Sokol, F18, Harrier, A400. Freece Tricolori, Polish F16 & Blackhawk all are of big interest to me. I've decided to try and take a more positive outlook in 2025. Not moan that something isn't there but appreciate what is. (So far it's going well, but who knows lol)

I do think though we get the "star items" announced later in the run-up to the show going by the past few years. U2 was only announced in July and the F15 June last year. So still plenty of time.

I would have to agree with Discodaz this is looking really flat this year, probably the least excited I’ve ever been for RIAT. I do hope they have some interesting fighters/ bombers to be added to the line up, the last few updates have been dreadful.

and while the bickering continues on the friendly forum....

i think, GVLCN hit the nail on the head exactly with what I'm trying to say. Its not that i expect wall to wall fighters, its more there isn't much variety as such this year. its either light aircraft or helicopters on the whole.so the "least excited" about this years air tattoo sums my feelings up really.and i live for the the air tattoo hence i always do all weekend and departures.

lets hope something to warrant me taking my camera out the bag gets announced soon

and Jason. you are very right. we should all be appreciative (including me) of what's coming rather than what's not. yes, the Americans are always among the last to confirm

You're*

It is against the rules to have multiple accounts too Mr Knight. If you want to quote rules do you want me to cover the ones you have broken during your time on here

You are on your last chance. There was a consensus you should have been banned last your anti staff outbursts in the past

Having seen an account of last weeks FRIAT forum, it was apparently said by Paul Atherton that as of that morning (last Friday) they had about 200 aircraft. A count of what’s been announced so far came to about 87. So that in theory leaves around 113 more aircraft to be confirmed, averaging about 12 or 13 each of the next nine Thursday updates. Exciting Thursdays ahead!!

But is 200 aircraft at the lower end of total aircraft in attendance in the modern era? Say the last 15 years? 2013 was a tad quieter as I recall what with the US sequestration and all.
Did you just copy what someone on UKAR said about 10 mins before you did on here about same subject? Unless you are same person?
I had read the account of the FRIAT forum on that website, the previous day I think, and just felt like sharing that information here and with an added related question. No, I am not the same person, and anyway, would it matter if I was? Can you only be on one forum?

And despite some nice stuff announced for this years show, I remain a bit underwhelmed and concerned at this stage.

It’s nice to see some like minded people on here, yes 2023 was great & 2024 fantastic so much variety. However this year I really am debating selling my camera gear or just not taking it & being bored beyond belief by the amount of crap announced so far.

The price of it all is now scandalous taking into account hotels, fuel & tickets. They really need a good update to satisfy a lot of people otherwise I’ll be saving my money for a trip abroad to a free airshow in the states.

The thing many people seem to forget with airshows is that the majority of footfall do not care what is on display. Joe Public "likes planes" - end of story. Yes a lot of enthusiasts go but they are still in the minority. Tickets sell out, job done as far as the organisers are concerned.

I fail to understand those who go just for one or two "class" acts but everyone is entitled to their opinion (once preferably on the same topic :P) but calling the line-up so far "cr@p" is a hit way below the belt to the organisers.

Some would not have survived the pre-internet years.

Enjoy your trip to the States - with or without camera?

Honest opinion they should do away with these Thursday updates.

Indeed - and we had to add the cost of film into the equation too. But we'd better be careful not to upset the younger generations by harking back to yesteryear.

I think the trouble is - we was Spoiled by the IAT's at Fairford in the Early 90's and the RIAT shows in the mid - late 90's and even at Greenham - where the Mill tried to cram in as many mil assets as possible, but things are different these days as we do not have the physical number of mil assets to display - same with all areas of the Worlds mil - including navies (Who remembers the Great Navy Days events at Portsmouth - Plymouth etc - always full of ships.

They exist, yes.

But far more likely to be a static Casa let's face it.

Unless you have a more substantial awareness that you can validate?

As I said “might be worthwhile”, I’ve heard something but not in a place to validate it by any means, hence my wording.

Still wouldn’t turn my nose up at that, especially with the lovely desert camo

I'm sure this year will be good but the problem is that it's always going to be compared with last year. Unfortunately that will be a very hard act to follow!

I have been to The Greenhams, Cottesmores, Boscombes and The Fairfords, I missed one Greenham and one Fairford.
But I have never been to a bad one or ever come away disappointed ! I have enjoyed everyone, always great entertainment, great statics, great flying and always lots to see around the show ground. And I think it is great value for a full days entertainment.
Are some better than others - obviously !
