Dilligaf 1 I think you have totally missed the point.
Your statement referencing Silverstone is totally irrelevant as it is taking about after entering the event.
My posts reference queue jumping before finally entering the event I.e. whilst being held after security scans and waiting for entrance to the Park and View.
Also my posts have been about the arrogance of those who feel they have the right to bypass those already queuing.
I totally agree with you. The amount of "entitled" people has increased and it's not just the young. Many seasoned aviationists are some of the worse offenders.

So wouldn't that be the same if people passed you before the bag search and also during the bag search as I stated. People could be going passed you all the time, including going through the ticket queue and ultimately when into P&V. This was my point. People saving spots and then allowing their mates to bypass the queue that's already formed is wrong. It is different if two people who went in together but got delayed , say at the security check. Well that's different. I see no reason why they shouldn't join up with their travel companion, the same as if it's a family member. If you both arrived at the same time, no issue. As I said it's the one guy in a group who gets up early to be first in line, but then over an hour later for example their friends roll in and join their mate at the front of the queue. That is unacceptable . This goes the same for people securing an area around them on the fence for people who arrive later. Sorry if your not there, then no seat, simple.

I was at P&V East on Monday from about 0930 - we had been to the show on the Sunday so didn't feel the need to be there for the very first departures. Maybe we were just fortunate with the spot we picked, but for the first time ever on the Departures day, we found ourselves close to the fence facing the runway threshold and in an area where most of the other people there were polite and fairly accommodating of each other. (I have to say that I had been expecting the more usual almost hand-to-hand combat in this area!) Yes, there were people with chairs right at the fence but they were not standing up all the time so it was often possible to shoot over them or through the gaps. It so happened that there were two young men from Hong Kong there (currently studying in the UK) and with whom we chatted during the day. The level of courtesy and consideration for others that they displayed to those around them, while still getting their shots, was something to behold and an example to follow.

I think one of the things that has changed a lot over the years is that the hard-core photographers (which probably include me) have been joined by the many smartphone users who want (and are fully entitled) to take movies or still images with their phones - so the proportion of the P&V attendeees who want to take at least some photos has probably increased a good bit in more recent years. In relation to the first-come-first-served approach that is often expressed, while I can see people's point, in the end we have all paid the same ticket price and there is no absolute entitlement to annexation or holding of a part of the enclosure to the exclusion of others. There are as we know various chair/tent/windbreak/rug techniques that tend to be used. RIAT and other shows should make it a condition of entry that any such paraphernalia will not be placed right at the fence, as the intention seems often to be to secure an area to the exclusion of others. It should not be a problem to have such gear a bit further back for those who want to sit down or shelter. I know there is a mix of views on this but some ground rules might help. After that, it is largely down to people "doing unto others as they would have others do unto them" and trying to remember that while we all enjoy and are passionate about aviation, it is actully a hobby rather than an existential issue.

Park and view West on Monday.
Intended to buy on the gate, so joined the queue at 0515 and was about 10th in line. Gates opened 0600 prompt and parked up. It was raining quite heavily at this point and it was to my great amusement watching people conducting a supermarket sweet type routine to gather their gear and run to the queue. I’d heard “nobody ever gets turned away” so I opted to remain dry in the car and edited a few photos and had a coffee, whilst watching people fighting with brollies (many losing) and getting drenched. 0730 gates opened and queue went down quite quickly, by 0835 it had almost dissipated entirely. I waltzed over to a separate “cash only” queue, which had nobody in it, paid my £30 and in I went. Bag search took less than a minute, everyone I encountered was very pleasant and helpful. Walked right down to the bottom left corner where there was still plenty of space, and ample room for a ladder without compromising anyones views. Facilities were spot on; plenty of toilets and a couple of catering vans. Yes they’re expensive, but it’s an airshow! The coffee van was certainly worth a visit. £4 and one of the best coffees i’ve ever had; not much more than any other high street chain!
Massive thanks to RIAT ATC, who made every effort to send things our way, the vast majority did! Shame the Phantoms never made it down our end but these things happen, we had plenty of topsides to make up for it!
A fantastic day with fantastic company, left after the KC10 resembling a human fire hydrant after hours of unbroken sunshine.
Took an acceptable 45 minutes to get to Gloucester airport for a well deserved pint, thanks to waze and it’s myriad of country roads!

All in all a great day and looking forward to next year; well done all involved!

My thoughts exactly, couldn't fault a thing on the Monday, nor the previous Wednesday and Thursday at P&V East. I enjoyed three excellent days watching a brilliant selection of aircraft. Well done RIAT, these continue to be the best spotter's packages ! have experienced anywhere in Europe.

I read a post on Twitter about a local trainspotter giving out because the train driver didn't want to be filmed and asked not to be...
Said trainspotter made a big fuss about it, "filming in a public place" (train stations technically aren't), and waited for the train drivers return run to film them again

They obviously have something wrong with them that they can drop to the level of pettiness over videoing a train.

Some really good points raised on this thread regarding queue jumping etc.
Myself and family members bought our tickets in advance for Wed, thur and mon and after arriving in P&V west at around 0600 found ourselves about 100 back in the queue. No problem. However I am fed-up of queue jumpers and the fact that those without tickets simply rushed to the front at 0730 bought a ticket and bypassed hundreds of us that had bought tickets in advance.
My solution and this may not be popular with all.
Open the entry at 0730 for those that have bought tickets in advance and only start selling on the day tickets from 0800.
After all whats the point of paying upfront if you can simply jump the queue and pay and go straight in.

They should stop selling tickets on the day but increase the amount of bookable tickets available, they should also introduce a policy of 'queue-jumpers will be shot on sight'.

Something needs to be done about it. Its a large number of people queue jumping and it's not even subtle. Its in plain view of everyone!!
