RIAT 2024 - Arrivals Discussion

Post by m1n1 » Thu Dec 21, 2023 9:12 am

This year I have really got into aviation photography and I was wondering what was a good location to catch the arrivals.

Many thanks

Depends on the wind direction on the day and what type of shots you want. last few years they've been landing 27 end, which is East to West. If for example they did the same next year then at East you will have them in the air as they approach, West you will have some nice taxi shots if they roll to the end of the runway (I believe the ATC try and get as many as possible to roll the full length).

Tickets have sold out for arrivals next year but they keep some behind so that you can buy them on the day, but its advised to get there early and join the masses (06:00).

Welcome aboard.

Are you aware of the show's park and view facility? In order to dissuade people from camping out on the roads to see the movements, there are two enclosures (east and west) which are available to view arrivals and departures.

Although they have sold out for advanced ticket sales, there are typically many tickets kept behind for on the day sales.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the replies. I wasn't aware that the arrivals setup was even a thing. Looks like I have missed the advance tickets on this occasion. I normally go most years on a Sunday with my lad who is also mad for the planes and now that he is a bit older we are getting a bit more serious about it.

Thanks again

I fear this might be the opening of a can of worms, but I have a question about P&V East and stepladders.

I've tended towards West in recent years, but I fancy a change this year. I have previously taken modest 4 rung steps into West ladder enclosure and it has never seemed to be an issue. However, at East I am not so sure. I know that steps are permitted at the Eastern end of East P&V and because its generally stuff landing, they are not exactly vital. But as I am not up for a desperate attempt to gain a place at the fence and I am only 5'7", I'm kind of thinking to stand a further back but have the steps so that I am not just shooting the backs of peoples heads.

Does anyone have any experience or advice around this? I honestly don't want to simply have an argument about stepladders here.

There is a stepladder area at the East end. It's all very civilised. You will be fine.

Aircraft arrivals on Friday

Post by Vulture 01 » Mon Jul 15, 2024 4:25 pm

Can anyone tell me where there might be a list published of expected arrival times for Friday this week?

Available from the P&V sites each morning, so not published as such - unless someone posts times out of their own volition.

I went to P&V East last year with ladder. Plenty of space further back, didn’t have any issues finding a space (I arrived after 9:30am on both Weds and Thurs last year).

Last year and 2022, Threshold produced a magnificent movements list for arrivals and departures. Does anyone know if they will produce a similar list this year?. If not, is anyone else making a list?. Owing to disablement I am unable to attend the show.

That reminds me of the one that someone did last year that was posted on here - probably done by the same person. It had lots of mistakes & typos on it and it was nowhere as good as Threshold's list.
