Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2022 - General Discussion Thread
Announcing attendees today does seem a bit crass.
Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2022 - General Discussion Thread
hmm.im not sure what to make of this.no airshow for 3 years, we have all eagerly awaited the first announcement and we get this. a couple of "seaside display acts" on static and a Danish trainer display team. not in my opinion a strong opener.
im not being disrespectful. I just feel the paying public expect better than that from the air tattoo. thats the sort of opener you expect from eg, Southport, Sunderland etc
again, just my opinion.
thoughts?

Quite liked the Baby Blue team when I saw them at Sanicole. Also great seeing Sally B too

Daz,
I would suggest that any aircraft are an improvement over the potential cancellation you suggested six posts earlier!
Gotta start somewhere!

Sally B would be my highlight at Southport. I've only seen her twice with living up North as she is a bit scared of us northerners it would seem...Discodaz wrote: ↑Thu Feb 24, 2022 1:49 pmhmm.im not sure what to make of this.no airshow for 3 years, we have all eagerly awaited the first announcement and we get this. a couple of "seaside display acts" on static and a Danish trainer display team. not in my opinion a strong opener.

totally agree.you are correct. however something to make people want to spend their hard earned cash at Riat rather than other big shows, i personally think would have been a better move as an opening draw.
i will reiterate as i know how this forum tends to work, i m not being disrespectful or in anyway ungrateful its just my opinion .

Well, I'll put my neck on the line and say it - that's the first "toilet break" act announced
Someone would have said for another act sooner or later!!
On a more serious note, completely agree with Daz. As stated on the website as "The world's greatest airshow!" then surely, you would start off with a flying display worthy of that title? They're a good team, I've seen them at Sanicole, can see the others at Duxford. When you look at openers in recent years, it is normally something to drag in the crowds...This won't.
Let's hope for something better but I don't think many, if any of us, will be holding our breaths.

I expect the planned announcement was drastically downsized given events, as a big question mark must sit over any major military involvement now....as it does with the show itself.

Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2022 - General Discussion Thread
completely agree with the last few posts .
@james cutting
exactly what i was thinking but i tried not to be too blunt

Nice first update. I do prefer the roar of jets, however I have never seen them before so it will be good to see a new display.

CivvyLatest Update - 3 March 2022
We are very pleased to announce that the Finnish Air Force will be providing a Hawk solo flying display at RIAT 2022, an excellent contribution to our training theme. It is planned that their specially painted aircraft (registration HW-340) will be used for the display.
Further welcome additions to the flying display can now be confirmed from Switzerland; in the shape of their F/A-18C Hornet solo display and PC-7 Team.
A welcome addition to our static aircraft displays will be a Gazelle HT3, operated by Nova Systems, which retains it's military colour scheme and markings (ZB625) from it's previous service with QinetiQ.
We were pleased to hear from the Turkish Embassy that their military is planning to send aircraft to participate at RIAT 2022, we have begun discussions with the aircraft operators and hope to have more news soon.
This week we've also been in communication with the Czech Air Force, Hellenic Air Force, Spanish Air Force & Royal Navy who have all expressed an intent to participate at RIAT 2022.

Nice to have the Finnish solo Hawk
