Class 37, 37424 was named and renumbered 37558 Avro Vulcan XH558 today after and extensive rebuild for Direct Rail Services at Crewe, Gresty Bridge open day. Which is really really cool!

Cheers

Is it possible this Loco' can be seen by the Public, or will it just sit in a Railway Shed with no access?

Glad to see another 37 heading back to the mainline and to see the Vulcan honoured in this way.

Back in 2004, another class 37 carried the 'Vulcan' name, unfortunately 37087 found its way to the scrapyard in 2013. Here's a pic of it in happier days and detail of its nameplate.

Class 37s don't howl, but they do thrash well! Built by English Electric at the Vulcan Foundry, Newton-le-Willows.

(takes anorak off, retires to bed)

You can borrow my anorak anytime

Love 37's, adore 40's: we have 2 DRS 37's working a short set from Norwich Thorpe to Yarmouth Vauxhall and Lowestoft Central

XH will be smiling to think they are linked :thumb:

Cheers

We saw one of the 68's on Saturday.

It was called Brutus, a suitable name I think.
(there may have been another on the other end but it was obscured by a rattler)
It looked great sitting in the sunshine in Norwich Station.

No I didn't get the number, it was far too warm for an anorak :-)

68016 (fearless ) and 68019 (brutus) are the two on hire at present
read from the other side of the county as the coffee stains on my new anorak are still wet

does reading about them in a magazine count as a spot even though I am not wearing it ( my anorak)at present

Me and SWMBO drove past those 68's last Sunday whilst they were in the siding next to Pltfm 1 at Nch Thp ;)

They are big beasties, but being an old Luddite, don't stir my heart like a 37 or 40

Bring back the Britannias

Personally, I was fond of the original "Peak" class, i.e. the original D1 - D10 (subsequently 44001-44010).
