Vulcan bomber to take to the skies above Doncaster

BATTLE of Britain Day will be marked in Doncaster this week by a special event at the former RAF Finningley airbase.
The sacrifice of thousands of British and Commonwealth airmen over the years is being commemorated with a flypast by the iconic Vulcan nuclear bomber, which is now based at Robin Hood Airport
The event has been organised jointly by the Doncaster branch of the Royal Air Forces Association and the Vulcan to the Sky Trust is being held at the airport near Auckley on Thursday, September 15.
The Salute to Vulcan XH558 ceremony and concert will give those attending the opportunity to get close to the giant delta winged V-bomber in its dedicated hangar at Robin Hood.

The event runs from 3pm to 6.30pm and Rossington Male Voice Choir will be providing the entertainment during the gathering, DVDs of the plane will be shown, Vulcan memorabiia will be on sale and there will be a tombola.

There will also be an opportunity to meet the crew of the Avro Vulcan who have been carrying out displays of the jet at airshows this summer and thrilling many thousands of spectators up and down the country.
At the end of the event a Sunset Service will be held to Remember The Few at a service taking place at the Finningley Memorial Gates opposite the terminal building.

The service will start at 6.45pm and weather permitting the Vulcan will make a flypast overhead dipping its wing in salute.

Civic Mayor Eva Hughes will be among the VIPs and dignitaries in attendance.

Tickets, limited to 500, are now on sale priced at £5 and the cost includes free car parking in the main car park at Robin Hood Airport.

To book your place at this one-off special event organiser Bob Hayward, the President of the Doncaster branch of the Royal Air Forces Association and a former RAF navigator, can be contacted by telephone on 01302 344628 or at his bobhayward@uwclub.net email address.

We wish to confirm recent press reports of a display this Thursday at Doncaster are incorrect. We have never committed XH558 to display and apologise in advance for any upset these reports will cause. Please await notification only by our official channels when any such flight is planned.

Best wishes,
The Vulcan team

I'd say there was very little chance of that.

Well I hope they get there before Mowbary melts completely.

Dundfold sounds feasable though as that's where one of their sponsors lives, so they could well give him a flypast.

I'm tempted, but 7 Hours stuck in a viewing area is a long time, especially with kids. I wonder if they allow re-entry?
