XH558 night-shoot idea at Woodford?

Post by andyxh558 » Mon Jun 11, 2012 10:05 am

I have been knocking this idea around on a n other forum, would like to see what you guys think about it.

As you know its the 60th anniversary of Avro 968 VX770's first flight and the idea was before the runway is torn up at Woodford bring 558 to there to re-enact the first flight and afterwards a night-shoot perhaps with the shuttleworths (BAE) Anson and bbmfs Lancaster as a final farewell to the historic site. What would someone pay for this,I myself would pay £40 or £50 to it and limit to say 250 or up to to 400 people and there is a considerable amount to 558s coffers.

Any of your ideas would be greatly appreciated too.

Nice idea get onto Mr Bamford (JCB) who owns the site and put it to him.
I think most of the £50s would have to go towards hiring fire vehicles etc if the Vulcan landed. A low fly past with the Lanc would be the best bet.

people paid £40 for 2 spitfires at Biggin Hill. So I will not be getting your support then! All Monies if this goes ahead will go on the running of the event, the avro historical society and of course the TVOC.

I wouldn't be willing to shell out more than £15-£20 for an event like that.

Its a great idea but there's alot to it.. not only fire cover, but all the ground equipment would have to be transported over there, the aircraft itself, ground crew, crew accommodation.. Just that alone is a fairly costly sum.

If you already have contacts at Woodford, try for a photo shoot of XM603, with a guided tour of whats left of the building.
Better to arange a night shoot of 558 at Doncaster

it was merely an idea to test the waters. i just think that woodford deserves a send off after almost 90 years of production of some of the most famous aircraft made in this country. ah well.....

Great idea, i think the logistics would be challenging, but there are never problems only solutions.
Id pay 40 Quid if we could have access to different areas at Woodford, Productions hangars and Flights Sheds Etc, i know they are empty but they are steeped in History. Why dont you try the Avro Heritage There to asisst you and point you in the right Direction - 0161 440 0487 Harry Holmes is the Man to speak to you.

I can just see a Picture of 558 with 603 in the Frame - Good luck to you and do keep us all Posted. Cheers Alan
