Anyway, what time is XH558 departing Finningley tomorrow? I fancy waving her off!

Thanks - I was being picky, I wondered if a specific-ish time was known yet? I don't fancy spending all afternoon staring at airliners *cough, spit*...

Well whatever 'might' have been said to visitors to the hangar yesterday, there's NOTHING about Harriers in the latest update so I'm not even going to bother discussing it.

It does seem that they finally might be getting their act together though business wise, and finding ways of getting additional income. Now whether their grand plans come to fruition or not is another thing but at least we can see they're trying to lay foundations for the future. I wish them well especially if it leads them to becoming a self sustaining unit.

Good news for those going to Bruntingthorpe on the 29th May. From the newsletter.

XH558 should take to the skies this weekend with a display booking at Southend late on Saturday afternoon. If you wish to see her take-off from Robin Hood, then please do consider our neighbours, be considerate to other road users and comply with any requests from the local police. As she will be prepared for flight outside the hangar, the viewing gallery will not be open this weekend.

After the display at Southend, XH558 is due to arrive at Bruntingthorpe in Leicestershire. There is strictly no public access to the airfield on Saturday, so again, please show consideration to other road users if you wish to gain a view from the perimeter roads.

Providing the crowd line is moved back to a safe and legal distance on Sunday, those present at the Cold War Jets day will be able to see XH558 depart for her return to Robin Hood.

Exactly. Which is why I'm not going to get worked up about the ifs, buts and maybes of one flying. At least not until they put it in writing. :P

Hope the weather is good enough for them to get airborne tomorrow though. Forecast doesn't look too great. :grr:

Surprised they've gone up tbh. Not exactly good VFR weather and I bet they're being bounced around all over the place.

Wonder how much FI will be eaten up today?

The take off was magnificent as usual. Nice view from the bank looking directly towards the threshold. One of those lovely old-fashioned leg-shaking, fence rattling take-offs. It felt like forty years had suddenly disappeared (and, rather oddly, I was at the same place looking at the same aeroplane!). Just lovely.

Some little stunt plane went off with the Vulcan towards Waddington, presumably taking some air-to-air shots en-route. Think he will have had a hard time finding a chink of sunlight though!

John,
I fail to see what is dangerous about it? All I see is normal adjustments for a cross wind. The high trees and camera angle probably give the impression of being low?

The Vulcan drivers are old hands - not much risk of anything dangerous being performed by those guys!

Good clips though - nice to see the other end of the flight that I waved-off!

Haha ......

The height of those trees were measured and calculations carried out before the test flights in '08 and there were similar comments on one of the test flights when I was videoing standing on the roof of ATC and it was nowhere near as low as some photos made it look. As TJ says it's the angle the video is taken from - I did have the proof in utube but have since closed the account.
