Re: Anatolian Eagle date and press/spotters day
I am travelling alone from UK and would also like to go to the Museum on Friday 12 May. Need to back around midday for flight. Is it possible to join others? Hopefully hear back before I need to book hotel and car hire. Cheers John
Re: Anatolian Eagle date and press/spotters day
Flights book with stopovers at Istanbul for some civvie spotting (Museums not really my thing) which hotels in Konya are people using I don’t mind taxi sharing with people it’ll save hiring cars!
Re: Anatolian Eagle date and press/spotters day
Has anybody on the group received any information from Konya about the event / timing etc ?
Those that have attended before, what was the procedure ?

Re: Anatolian Eagle date and press/spotters day
Not received anything about where to go etc but I expect the main gate is a good starting point
Just got my International Driving permit from Brandon post office ( 5 minutes plus a passport photo) . I didn't realize until prompted that you needed such a document for Turkey. According to the post office counter lady you need one for Spain? But I have driven loads of times in Spain without knowing I needed one!
Turkey car hire will ask to see it I am told
Turkey is permit type 1968 , apparently different countries use a different permit! Who is in charge of the world? They need a kick
£5.50 plus you need a passport sized photo which they stick on the permit

Thanks for heads up on international driving licence requirement. Luck I haven’t booked a car as yet. Was hoping someone would have a spare seat on Friday. Cheers John

Re: Anatolian Eagle date and press/spotters day
We are arriving the day before and driving to Ankara where I have not been before for the museum. Already four in the car but from Konya to the base a taxi is probably the cheapest option although I am an Anatolian Eagle virgin!
Re: Anatolian Eagle date and press/spotters day
I've never been asked for an International Driving Licence in Turkey and never bothered getting one! The only country that I've visited that has ever asked me for one is Japan.
I'm told that the Saudi Eagles cancelled which makes sense because there was no sign of them on the pre-exercise video (which did show Pakistani and UAE Vipers, Qatari and RAF Typhoons and a couple of Frogfoots). A good one for me to miss.

Mark

Its worth remembering that as there are now no paper driving licences - therefore no record of convictions, a hire company can request your driving record.
They can view it with a DVLA code, which you can get prior to travel from (https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence).
The code lasts one month.

Re: Anatolian Eagle date and press/spotters day
Konya weather forecast looks quite good for Tuesday and for Wednesday morning, not so good for Wednesday afternoon
18-20C so leaving the pullover behind which saves precious hand luggage space

Let's hope Wednesday's forecast is the same as the Iniochos' ones where pm turned out better than expected on both daysThe last forecast leaving Greece was rain moving away to Turkey I left Athens this morning in glorious sunshine, and just arrived in Konya as a storm passed through!

Not mega fussed but have the RAF typhoons arrived at Konya , normally someone on here picks up an Ascot flight leaving Coningsby or Lossiemouth (not quite so well covered as Coningsby)?

The RAF Typhoons came from the Cyprus detachment.
They are there, yes.

Check the night time temperature just in case you want to eat al fresco

Re: Anatolian Eagle date and press/spotters day
Didn't need to show the International Driving permit to Europcar
Two E-7 read off in taxi through barns from TC-RBR on arrival: 13-001 and 13-004 plus a solo Turk F-16 88-0025 and three Casa 235 read off the nose : 56 , 080, 119
Heading up to to see some preserved at a phantom base beginning with Es that I can't pronounce - the museum at Ankara is closed on Monday!

Presumably that would be Eskisehir? Wikipedia confirms that the museum is always closed on Mondays.slogen51 wrote: ↑Mon May 08, 2023 8:12 amDidn't need to show the International Driving permit to Europcar

Re: Anatolian Eagle date and press/spotters day
Thanks
Monday is not a good day for museums in Turkey
My first AE and now at last I have experienced the exhilarating low pass by the solo Turk and also another superb low pass over the ( ever shifting) crowd line by viper 93-0693 which is the lowest high speed pass I have ever personally seen - breath taking.
Wednesday - day 2 - more of the same probably - can't wait and hope the sun plays ball!
