Afternoon all,
I have a tough question now, which may not be answerable.
Does anyone out there have a log of which Canberras left Binbrook with 85 in 1972 when they moved to West Raynham assuming they moved on the same day?
They had about 16 Canberra B.2s and at least 4 T.19s on strength at the time they moved.

Did you know that registration to Fighter Control is completely free and brings you lots of added features? Find out more....
85 Sqn at Binbrook
Re: 85 Sqn at Binbrook
Tim,
I can but guess at one of them being B.2 WK144/W which used to be at St. Athan as 8689M.

Re: 85 Sqn at Binbrook
Tim, further to our off board communications I checked Peter Green's archived files at the museum today and unfortunately the Canberra file does not go down to serial level.
Also I didn't get the chance to check in his Canberra book - sorry!
Our T19 - WH904 was of course on strength at that time.

Re: 85 Sqn at Binbrook
Tim,
the following may help - its been extracted from `Anglia Aeronews` so credit to them.
West Raynham officially opened to flying again on 17.1.'72 with 85/100 Sqdn Canberra's arriving soon afterwards. The station officially became operational on 1.2.'72.
At Binbrook, a final flypast by 85 Sqdn took place on 25.1
Current with 85 Sqdn at Binbrook in 7.'71 were:
B.2 WH878/A, WJ640/F, WJ603/G, WK116/H*, WJ753/J*, WP515/K, WH739/L*, WJ681/M, WJ567/N* (later recorded as a T.4), WE113/Q, WH703/U*, WH667/V*, WJ620/W, WD948/X, WJ614/Y
T.19 WH903/B*, WH724/C*, WH904/D, WJ975/E*, WK106/P, XA536/R, WJ610/T*
T.4 WH849/O, WJ861/Z
* Transferred to 100Sqdn while at WR which resulted in many a/c in both sqdns being re-coded.
Of these, WJ640, WJ681, WJ620, WH849 and WJ861 were not reported as being at WR although most likely some, if not all, were.
Additional Canberra's based at WR in '72 were WJ678 (Ex60MU), WJ728/R 100Sq, WJ880/T 100Sq and WK162/A 85Sq
cheers,
Graham

Re: 85 Sqn at Binbrook
Many thanks too Graham, that's patched a few gaps in my school exercise book - some pencilled serials have somewhat faded
In my notes had WH878/A being scrapped at St.Athan in Jan'72
also had got B2 WJ678 also coded 'C' and noted WD948 coded 'E' visiting Binbrook on 21/6/72
T19 WJ610/T crashed at West Raynham on 26/6/72
Had WD966 coded 'M' and WJ861 coded 'Z' with 85Sq
WE192 was first noted visiting Binbrook on 26/7/72 in 100 Sq markings
By Jan. 1974 visiting Binbrook were WJ640 (now camo) and also WP515 (no confirmation on camo)
At some point T19 WH724/C rec'd camo
