While staying in Cleethorpes in August I went to the services memorial which overlooks the seafront. It is an impressive memorial which pays tribute to not only the armed forces but also the many civilian personnel who worked along side the armed services. I took these few photographs but as you will see there are many plaques on the first picture honouring their memory. I decided at the time on took them that I would wait and post them today to honour all past, present and future members of the services on remembrance day.

These memorials are located in the adjacent garden.

Hi all
I spent last Friday Int he Silverstone Museum which is housed in the wartime hangar which has been really well renovated . There is a good display about the the airfield and the work of the OTU . As well as a rolling screen with the names of those lost while flying from Silverstone and Turweston there are pictures of famous racing drivers who also where lost during WW2 .
There is also a memorial to the crew of a 578Sqn Halifax which crashed on the airfield while making an emergency landing returning from the infamous Nuremberg raid Image
There is also a plaque on the Trig point just behind the Luffield corner grandstand it was the 105th and last aircraft lost by the RAF out oft force of nearly 800 sent out that night .
Image.

Also on the bridge over A43 between Brackley and Turweston village are these

Spent about 65 0f my soon to be 72 years in Carnoustie area and never noticed a memorial in the local Shanwell cemetery. It is a shoulder high stone with a plaque in remembrance of 7 members of the United Free Church who did not return from the 1914-18 war.Its part of a circular formation of graves close to the entrance.Only saw it last week cant believe I missed it.
