Last Ever Hawk T1 Display Practice tomorrow...

Post by Flyingmonster » Tue Oct 09, 2012 9:08 pm

This was posted on the 2012 Hawk T1 Display Teams Facebook page -
Last ever Hawk T1 practice display here at Valley tomorrow morning at 0830.....I'll make it a good one!! Phil
Is that it for the Solo Hawk T1? Seems odd thinking of a Airshow with out a brightly coloured solo Hawk screaming by....
Cheers

I heard something earlier in the year about this being the last ever display Hawk. If correct, why is this the case?

I think it was referring to Flt Lt Phil Birds last T1 practice, and not the last ever T1 display?

It was a great display too, I'm sure he extended a couple of legs for speed!

There will be no dedicated Hawk T2 display, there arent enough airframes to spare.

This was from 208 Sqn earlier in the year

The 2012 Hawk display Pilot has now been chosen (Flt Lt Phil Bird) and the build up to the new season is underway with the final year of the Hawk T1 Display from No 208(R) Sqn with the First practise starting today.

With no more FJ Students coming onto 208 Sqn they are suppose to Disband at the end of the year once the final students have finished.

Plus saw this on the RIAT webpage

Phil will be the last RAF pilot to demonstrate the BAE Systems' Hawk T1 as the solo display aircraft will be replaced by the upgraded Hawk T2 next year.

This is from 2012 Hawk Display team Facebook page its part of the thread that announced the practice at valley...... might have to wait a year before seeing a solo Hawk at displays :-(

"Sadly no T2 next year.....Tomorrow for the T1 at Valley, Friday practice at 1620 at Dux and then Sunday for the public display at Duxford. The end is near, but I'll try hard to make it a good one and lets hope for some T2 action in 2014."

I'm still not sure - the T1 seems to have had a slight reprieve at Valley, as they should have almost gone by now, as the last course qualified on them a few weeks back. But they are being kept on - so only time will tell :-)

Here's hoping :halo: But then again, a Hawk T2 display will be very nice and very noisy! :Wow:

All new students now go from Tucano straight to Hawk T2.

I think hawktmk1a is referring to existing pilots moving from front line squadrons to the Hawk T1s of 100Sqn and RAFCAM etc. Presumably currency on the T2 doesn't also give them currency on the T1?

Yes I'm with you on that, rumours on the fence that the Tucano/T2 jump is still to be proven as not too large. I think that the T1 may well be at Valley for a few more years yet, in what capacity I not know. They may take on the role of aggressors like 100 Sqn, but I guess time will tell!
