Ash cloud again

Photographed twenty Hawks this morning before the ash cloud scrubbed flying again, tiresome!

Sure there isnt another reason for no flying this afternoon? All the ash charts and notams would indicate the UK is in the clear certainly for all of today.

Hi Ross, I was listening to the scanner when the call went out for all the Hawks to be recalled, so unless they were telling porkies it seems to be the case.

I agree with you about the cloud as according to the media the ash should not be a problem, but we all know how the H&S culture works and any risk will see a stop to the days flying.

Perhaps the true extent of the cloud does not get into the public domain, I only hope they get back to normal before I go home at the weekend.

Yes it was nice to see the display, got some nice shots.

Wednesday we had a Warton Typhoon ZJ699 "Tarnish 5" come through the approach plus a visit by a 100Sqn Hawk XX331 CP and a 32Sqn 125 ZD621.

Busy again on Thursday but the weather has closed in a litte this afternoon.

"its mainly down to Rolls Royce calling the shots on the engines and the inspections required if there is suspect ash damage."

The inspections carried out are formal ones authorised by the MoD, so it's not just a case of doing them on the whim of RR. Thainoodle is right, there's a lot of work involved and Babcocks did really well to recover the affected aircraft.
