Activity 19th 20th October

Post by binbrook87 » Wed Oct 18, 2023 4:02 pm

Hi all. Does anybody know if there's usual flying activity for the rest of the week at Valley...ie Hawks and Texans? I've seen a post somewhere that mentions operating hours 16th-18th...then 23rd-26th as if there's a lull or break in-between? Was planning a 2 hour trip up there that's all. Cheers in advance 👍 oh and ps.. Can you still view at Plane Rock?

I think the notam is just for the Chinook deployment. There is night flying 16/10 to 16/11 but I'm not sure if it will have a big effect on daylight flying as it's due to finish by 7pm.
CLOSED FIELD OPS:
16-18 1845-2359
19 1645-2359
AD CLOSED

If by 'plane rock' you mean runway 13, there is much less parking now available. Outside of school holidays I'd think you'd still be ok. If for some reason it's busy, there is plenty of room at runway 31.

Aah fantastic thanks very much. I'll take a punt and try tomorrow...yes I was thinking the 13 end if they tend to use that predominantly when wind is SE like this week. Very much appreciate the reply 👍👍

Was there yesterday.
Hawks started around 08:30 max 6 jets
Texans started around 09:30, normally 08:00 but they’re night flying this week.
2 Chinooks ZA671 & ZD981 normally start flying after 14:00 but they departed up the N Wales coast today at 14:00, not sure if they returned.
Looking at the forecast it might be 19 tomorrow.

Thanks for all the help guys! A quite productive day in the end. Home team weren't quite as busy compared to usual.... but 3 x Wildcats, 2 x Typhoons and a late late surprise of an Irish Air Corps PC12 (RIAT special scheme airframe) which landed just after 5pm more than made up for it! No Chinooks seen though.
