Do we know if the Islanders are back to temporarily take on some of the gaps left by Gazelle dept? I take it 5 reg are gone now totally? I'd assume all the boots on ground aren't needed now.

These Islanders have been operating here since May 2022 but not in lieu of the Gazelles. According to Jane's (4) Wildcat are due to take up the surveillance role in the near future.

I heard that Wildcat rumour mentioned but that was some time ago. Was there a more recent confirmation?

The entry from Jane's:

Senior sources in UK Joint Helicopter Command told Janes on 3 April that the proposed plan is for helicopters to be drawn from the fleet of 34 AAC Wildcats based at RNAS Yeovilton in Somerset for the manned surveillance tasking in Northern Ireland and the UK mainland. The new arrangements are expected to be confirmed in the MoD's Defence Command Paper to be published in the summer.
