B45 on the dump at Alconbury

Post by mcduff » Sat May 05, 2012 9:44 pm

Hi, looking for any information on B45 that ended it's days on the dump at Alconbury in 1959 until 1966. Any help greatly appreciated, with thanks to those who have supplied details already.
Cheers....McDuff

Here's some more McDuff.
Before being assigned to the 47BW's 422BS at Sculthorpe in Dec'53, 7056 served with SAC's 91SRW at Barksdale and then Lockbourne AFB's.
Although some of the 91st's B-45A's were deployed alongside its RB-45C's on UK Detachments in 1951/52 I've not seen any evidence to confirm that 7056 was one of them.
In March'54 the 422d was replaced at Sculthorpe by the 86BS and its B-45's were inherited by the new squadron which continued serving there until its transfer to Alconbury in Sept'55. Due to reconstruction work at Alconbury the 86BS, including 7056, operated from Molesworth from May'56 returning to Alconbury by May'57. With B-66B's replacing the 86th's B-45A's, 7056 was authorised to be scrapped in April'58.
Hope thats been of interest,
cheers,
Graham

Hi, I am truly amazed by the amount of information and knowledge that my fellow enthusiasts have. I expected little or no response to what was an exceedingly obscure enquiry.
Thanks for all your replies, they have been tremendously helpful.
Cheers........McDuff

it was dumped around the back at Alconbury on the Abbots Ripton side very close to the road which gave u a nice view across the airfield and so was a very familar sight to all who visited during that period
