Who Dares Wins Scouts?

Post by Unknown74 » Sat Jun 05, 2021 6:36 am

I know this isn't exactly a question about Spotting tie ups and log gaps but I have always wondered while watching the film if anyone knew the serials of the Scout Helicopters used in the SAS Movie Who Dares Wins? And if any of them still existed?

I tried to Google about those but did not get much info.Seems some current [at the time ] SAS troopers did some of the stunts along with stuntmen .

Not seen the film for many years but as I recall at least two are identifiable from the number on the tail boom and another one has the serial stencilled on the rear cabin bulkhead, port side.
Two suggestions are XR629 and XV138

As for the other "... Over to you "

This film is being shown regularly on Talking Pictures at the moment, so maybe try and record it? Then playback slowly and see what you get. I've not seen it for years either, but an old friend had a bit part in it as an extra, about one minute of fame.

Evergreen 44 you might be close with XV138 - I've just had a look at the scene where just before they are arriving over the Embassy you can clearly see XV130 when the American guy is handing out the chewing gum!

Thanks for that. I was going from flash-back memory rather than accurate recollection but I think XV138 is still extant and has a civ. reg.
I have meant to make a note of the serials before now and will look-out for the next repeat on that channel

XV138 is G-SASM and still active and based at North Weald according to PlaneBase. It also has XV130 as G-BWJW also at North Weald but withdrawn.

Film recently shown again.
The a/c with the serial on the bulkhead was XV130

I was trying to decide recently while watching this, wether it was the Westland Scouts. The SAS Soldiers or Lewis Collins who was/ were the main star(s) of this movie? Sorry to go off the subject of the post there for a minute.

I know this sounds simple but with some films I have just typed in what aircraft were used in this fim and sometimes they come up.Had a few surprises

I caught the end of a 2003 New Zealand film called 'Terror Peak' The star for me was an airworthy Scout AH1 carrying civil marks ZK-HVD but marked XV129 om the rear bulkhead. Also visible was the cab of another Scout with a yellow nose (and possibly a yellow tail cone).

Hi All.

Scouts in NZ.
F9475. ZK-HQU(XP849) but was still in UK 2004.
F9492. ZK-HZS(XP891) listed as 'wreck but owned by the same people as ZK-HVD/XV129.
F9652. ZK-HYS(XT646) W/O 1996
F9655. ZK-HUK(XT649) W/O 2002
F9703. ZK-HUD(XV128) Preserved Bethells Beach.
F9737. ZK-HUC(XW282) W/O 2002 same op as HZS/HVD so the yellow one is probably one of these.
