Two 7th ACCS EC-130E's arrived at Mildenhall and were reported in SEAR as present on 20th September 1986 as 21791 and 21836 both with KS tail codes. I saw two Hercules on the evening of the 19th September heading Mildenhall way with callsigns of xxxx71 and xxxx76 where xxxx was sounded something like BEE-MARR. Does anyone know traditional 7th ACCS callsigns are anything like "BMAR" or maybe boxed them in / out at the time?
Many thanks
Bob

They were reported in BARG 86-10 as arriving on the 19th, no mention of callsigns or times though.
The following also reported as arriving that day
1 x MC-130E 7SOS 64-0523
1 x EC-130H 41ECS 31581

Hi Bob
If it helps at all I 'knocked up' a callsign document for my own use in the 80s and it had an awful lot of info in it. I think I spent more time on that than I did looking for aeroplanes! I have the following entry for the 7th ACCS...
--------------------
7ACCS/28AD EC-130E (Keesler AFB, MS)
The unit have used the prefixes PACE & COMER.
Noted have been...
PACE 73 by 21293, PACE 77 by 21857 & COMER 78 by 21818
-------------------
It may have been coincidental that in the examples above the last digit of the callsign suffix equated to the last digit of the serial, but such a system would tally well with what you reported, in that "**** 71" & "**** 76" tie up nicely with airframes 21791 & 21836.
Best wishes

I had thought about the last digit theory before but had no further evidence to confirm it so that is useful also the fact the callsign S were in the 70’s. They did follow each other from OTT Wallasey to Mildenhall so both being from the same unit is possible but not confirmed.
I’ll have to dig around and see it the other two Steve mentions were Eastbound or Westbound
Thanks for your help.

Re: Mildenhall 19th / 20th September 1986 7thACCS EC-130 serial and callsigns
Hi again Bob
If it's of use, BAR report that as well as visiting Mildenhall on the 19th September 1986 EC-130E 31581 also dropped into Bentwaters on the 17th September (and it had seemingly been detached to Woodbridge along with 31587 as early as August 14th), and so it was already in the UK/Europe by the time of its visit to Mildenhall; as such it's maybe unilkely to have routed to the 'hall via Wallasey.
Regarding t'other candidate, it's perhaps worth noting that at the time of your sighting 7th SOS were based at Rhein Main, Germany (operating from there with MC-130Es 40523, 40555, 40561 & 40566) so again one might reasonably conclude that it's unlikely to have routed via Wallasey on its way to Mildenhall.
Best wishes

That sounds very plausible. Thanks
