Did any of the mag's print a based list of CF-104 based in europe at EDAL
or EDAN . EDAM and the LF.. bases were before I started this hobby CAF
wise.
I can see from some site's the amount of aircraft w/o .It seem's well over
100 were assigned to NATO .when I started I think they were only three Sqd
left in Europe

Re: 1 CAG CF-104 in Europe
Hi Tony
Just a reminder that ICAO codes are only permitted if accompanied by the airfield name
The only Canadian lawn dart base I remember in Europe was Soellingen EDAL?
EDAM sounds like cheese from EHAM Amsterdam Schiphol.

Re: 1 CAG CF-104 in Europe
To help Antonio out, EDAN was Lahr the HQ for Canadian forces in Germany and to where the majority of C-130 and C-137 flights from Gatwick ended up.
1 CAG was formed on 29/06/1970 and the CF-104's were based at Baden-Soellingen being replaced by CF-188's. It stood down from flying operations on 01/01/1993.
I am looking back through old BARG's (1969 to 1975) to see if there is a listing. In these early years there is nowhere near as much information on non UK air arms as in later years.

Re: 1 CAG CF-104 in Europe
Right hopefully a starting point,in BARG for April 1971 it gives a list of 85 CF-104D/G's which were noted at Prestwick (PIK) during February and March that year. Scottish Aviation had some form of maintenance contract which saved having to take the machines all the way back to Canada.
I can add one more to the list, which I will scan and send to you Tony by e:mail, and that is 104806 noted on 22/09/1969 at Prestwick but before 1 CAG was set up.

Re: 1 CAG CF-104 in Europe
From doing a quick bit of research, I think (I am no expert) there were eight squadrons of CF-104s based in Europe in the early 1960s. 439 and 441 at Marville, 421 and 430 at Grostenquin, 427 and 434 at Zweibrucken and 422 and 444 at Baden Solligen. When France took control of nuclear weapons based on their soil the two Grosenquin squadrons moved (421 to BS and 430 to ZR) while the Marville ones continued in a reconnaissance capacity, until France left NATO. The number of squadrons was decreased when the Canadian armed forces were amalgamated in 1968. I know nothing about serials though.

Re: 1 CAG CF-104 in Europe
Copy of BARG page should be with you. That gives you 85 + 1 I saw at PIK.
Re: 1 CAG CF-104 in Europe
I have now looked through BARG's for 1972 to 1976. From 1972 onward there is not very much information about individual foreign air arms, the main thrust is all to do with US military, so I have found no more specific info about RCAF CF-104's.
Re: 1 CAG CF-104 in Europe
Wolf51, a short list below with CF-104's I saw in the 80's. No specific squadrons noted. They often didn't have squadron markings.
Maybe old Scramble magazines have more info. Shall check these.

marks and ex RCAF 755 CF-104 R.Norwegian AF
Think their call-sign's them days were CHECK TIGER and YOGI remember a flight departing
somewhere useing 'YOGI - Hotels'
Many thanks hanzi / jutter and Paul

Re: 1 CAG CF-104 in Europe
Hi Guys I would like to submit some info to this conversation
Logged doing PD/Overshoots at RAF COLTISHALL - 25.09.1968 were the following CF104G's - 12759 & 12845 and CF104D - 12667 - ?? All were polished metal with white wings which apparently was the thing those days and a RCAF - !!! on the nose
Too this day I don't know where they had come from or went to. I have a publication which mentions 1 Wing & 4 Wing as operators of the type. I have seen reports of a "Tiger Meet" at Woodbridge but I am sure that was in 1969

Re: 1 CAG CF-104 in Europe
The Military Aircraft Markings 1983 lists a rather long list of CF-104 serials. Looks like these are all CF-104's, Canadian and European based.
