VMFA-122 Edinburgh Turnhouse March 1987

Post by graeme56 » Fri Apr 17, 2020 6:25 pm

Hi y'all - I'm taking advantage of some down time to write up some old logs - much to my annoyance, I can't find my logs for '87 and would greatly appreciate it if some kind soul could give me a list of the VMFA-122 Hornets that visited in March '87 and also the date they arrived and departed as I witnessed both - the arrival from the CTB and the form-up after departure over Granton - many thanks in advance -

Hi, hope you're also keeping safe - strange days indeed - thanks very much for the list - ah, those were the days - in three years at Edinburgh we had 4 A-4's, 4 EA-6's and over 30 F/A-18's - I was an assistant in the tower then - retired now...

Remember the VMFA-122 Hornets very well, the public were invited into RAF Turnhouse to have a look at them, and I remember very excitedly being picked up from School and going to see them, awesome these were my first real US Fighter jet Aircraft.

Was wondering if anyone could provide the IDs of the Support Hercules which were parked at the Cargo Terminal that day?

If you have the new F/A-18 Hornet Key Publishing Special Publication and you look at page 16/ 17 there is a picture of a US Marine Corps F/A-18A Hornet of VMFA-122 at Bardufoss Air Base in Norway in Winter 1987 I think this is one of the Hornets which visited Turnhouse?

Support was provided by KC- 130Fs 148896/BH, 148898/BH both VMGR-252, which have been reported as arriving on the 12th .

Always forgot to ask as I've always wondered if anyone could remember which runway were they using at the time these arrived and which was in use when these departed although I believe it may have been 07/06 for departure but due to being at School I have no idea.

In case anyone needs times for the two KC-130F, 148896 arrived 0949 12/3/87 and departed 0920 14/3/97. 148898 arrived 0843 12/3/87 and departed 1447 13/3/87. Credit to "Scottish Air News".
Kind regards
