REQ: Brawdy August 1985

Post by Downrange » Thu Mar 05, 2020 4:35 pm

Hi,
Any chance anyone has a serial for a USN P-3, call-sign "CQ76" that departed Brawdy on the afternoon of 5th August 1985 for Keflavik?
Thanks,
Colin

I have skimmed through BARG and can find nothing that helps .

Only thing I found under Keflavik was :

VP-10/LD replaced VP-40/QE on TDY here during early-July with P-3C's
161131/1,161130/2, 161123/3, 161124/4, 161125/5, 161126/6, 161127/7, 161128/8, 161129/9.
The resident UP-3A 150495 is thought to be at NARF Jacksonville for maintenance at present as P-3A 152141 (operated by VP-30 for NARF Jacksonville) has been operating from here recently as a temporary replacement.

Nothing under Brawdy for visitors .

Hi Steve - thanks for trying! I too checked BARG with no joy. I did find a reference in Yorkshire Air News that possibly two P-3's visited Brawdy on that date, no serials though,

Colin

Given that none of the P-3s listed in the July '85 'BAR' rundown of USN P-3 units and their aircraft contains reference(s) to any aircraft coded '76', nor any squadron with the tailcode 'CQ', what if '76' was the last two of the serial? If so, the October '94 issue of 'BAR' included a reference to VP-3A 149676 (operated by VP-30 on behalf of CNO - Chief of Naval Operations?) arriving at Prestwick (HMS Gannet) on 2/8 and departing on 5/8. Could it have departed for home via Brawdy, which IMSMR has (or had?) a VLF antennae station nearby for communication with USN subs?
