B-2A fly-by at El Toro April 1997

Post by kevinm » Mon Sep 23, 2019 11:49 am

Good afternoon All,

I am working my way through a US trip log from April 1997 and have found a gap for a B-2 that performed a flyby at El Toro on Saturday, 26th April 1997. The report on the Scramble site for that date has the same gap as me.

Could anyone confirm the serial for this one please?

Many thanks,

Kevin

That was the same day as Nellis AFB 50th anniversary show, I have 2 B-2s logged there as 89-0128 and 89-0129, I bet it was one of those but I did not note which Spirit was in the static and which did a fly by.
Maybe this post will trigger someones memory.

And the Scramble report for Nellis has only 89-0128 as being at the show , no mention of a 2nd B-2 there .

I was solo so I can't verify further info, it was a great show and I managed to see a SR-71 flying on the Saturday and also one depart on the Tuesday, this went around a couple of times and was fabulous as I watched it from up in the hills.
I haven't really done any spotting since 2002, I just lost interest with all the downsizing, extra security etc Still Lurking though :)
ps I will have alook at my photos to see if there is anything B-2 related.

Thank you to everyone.

I was at Tustin at the time which is why I don't have photos.

There is a YouTube clip of the B-2 flypast on that day but it is too difficult (for me anyway) to read the "Spirit" name on the undercarriage doors.

Regards,

Kevin

Okay , here's what I have found :

According to Air-&-Space.com

https://www.air-and-space.com/Northrop% ... ge%201.htm

89-0128 Spirit Of Nebraska was on static display at Nellis

89-0129 Spirit Of Georgia was flown from Whiteman AFB and displayed on Saturday 25th April ( Should say Friday )

93-1085 Spirit Of Oklahoma was flown from Whiteman AFB and displayed on Sunday 26th April ( Should say Saturday )

No mention of El Toro flypast though and I can't imagine they would send 2 B-2A's for 2 flypasts , less than an hours flight time away from each other , but ............

If it is the same clip I saw , no one could read anything off it .

The 50th anniversary show at Nellis was a Fri-Sat show only, not Sunday.

I remember that I drove to the El Toro air show for the Sunday, Saturday night stopped close to Disney land/world.

been to Nellis on the 26th. can confirm that 89-0128 was on the static.
however didn't see a 2nd B-2.

visited MCAS El Toro the next day the 27th. Logged no B-2.

I was at Nellis both days, 25th & 26th April.
As mentioned above:
89-0128 was in static
89-0129 displayed on 25th
93-1085 displayed on 26th
