Old aircraft at RAF Catterick 1980s

Good evening group my first official posting has anyone got a list of aircraft and registrations that was at the RAF camp at Catterick around 1980/1 as I played a visit with my school saw several wrecks and stuff this is before the big burn of all the aircraft I didn't have a log book with me thank you guys Paul

Hi Paul,

I visited on 18/05/1982, but I think that all (bar one) of these had been there for some time. Please note that this is all we could see from the road (A1), there may well have been others.

XH228/B......Canberra B(I).8..........this was very near the road and was the 1st thing you would see coming N on the A1
XH554.........Vulcan B.2................though this was still in service with 230OCU on 02/08/1980 at Yeovilton
XH647.........Victor K.1A
TG536.........Hastings C.1A
XP353.........Whirlwind HAR.10
XJ724.........Whirlwind HAR.10
XN925.........Buccaneer S.1

A quick run through of an old record of mine yields the following extras that were present in the late 1970s up to about 1980 (maybe beyond that):-

I did my basic RAF fireman course at Catterick in 1973 and we trained upon many airframes, I remember the rows of Canberra and Pembroke airframes awaiting their fiery fate, scattered around for deployment training were Meteors, and a caged Canberra in the monitoring area, upon the burning area were Vulcans. There were some Vampire, Hunter, Vulcan and Meteor cockpits in the Fire School hangar, along with a complete Buccaneer. There might have been many other aircraft there but I cannot remember what they were.
