St. Albans College Herts. 1973

Post by EA6B Prowler » Tue Jan 01, 2019 1:03 am

Back in the day whilst being taught my trade, St. Albans College where I was "educated" in how aircraft were put together/worked and the theory behind it all, the engineering department had 3 DH Vampires (if memory serves correctly) plus the nose/cockpit section of a Piston Provost.

Log books and records of mine from that era have long gone  :(

Would anyone happen to be able to confirm the serials of the said aircraft please?

Many thanks

Excellent stuff eagle driver

Plus the three Vampires survive today it appears, might need a jaunt out or three given their locations to re-acquaint myself with them.

Many thanks

A Google search found this:

https://www.facebook.com/ProvostPreserv ... =3&theater

For those without access to FB direct quote from page with due credit:

"Percival Provost WV614 was fitted with 2x 0.303in machine guns , plus various bombs and rockets for trials in 1954. Most of her service life was dedicated to armed trails until in 1957 it was badly damaged while taxiing at Kidlington, and sold to Hatfield tech college."

At the moment cannot find what happened to it.

Good Evening and Happy New Year.
Re: Provost WV614
According to Wrecks and Relics 9th. Ed. 1984 P.67. This was broken up at the College in July 1983.
Hope this is helpful

No worries Oes

Our class 73 - 77 probably contributed to it's eventual demise :halo: :D
