Lyneham 1960s

Post by Vulcan44 » Sun Dec 17, 2017 7:31 pm

Hi,

I was based at RAF Lyneham 1966-9. Does anyone have info on the Britannias and Comets based there during this period; my log has long since disappeared and I'm trying to resurrect it.

Regards

Hi Pawlee1,

Fantastic and thanks for such a quick response really is appreciated.

I don't remember an Iraqi but do recall seeing the Jordanian C-130 visiting bringing back the king's Rolls Royce for repair after an assassination attempt. I used to work on a/c refuelling so gave me a good chance to build up my log.

Again thanks and regards

Hello chaps

Only just seen this thread, some great info for sure. For my sins I grew up in Calne and would often cycle out to the crash gate in New Zealand village. I distinctly remember that in the late 1960's, Iranian AF C-130s were regular visitors and although my logs from those days have long since been lost, one that remains in the mind is 5-131.

Hi Pawlee1 and Grahamdevizes,

Still getting over Xmas and new year dreaded lurgy so sorry for the delay in replying. Thanks both for your updates and memories. My best memory of Lyneham in those days was standing on top of my fuel tanker and watching Concorde fly over on one of its trial flights from Filton, really quite a sight.

Regards to you both
